What have you bought recently?

Funny you should talk about men not wearing perfume. Today, I am wearing “ Un homme de Caron” , a man’s perfume! Silly, isn’t it…that a fragrance should be deemed masculine or feminine?
Pheromones are chemical signals that every creature, including humans, emits. While we're not fully conscious of these smells, they can play a critical role in our attraction towards others. Scent manufacturers are fully aware of pheromones and the science behind the attraction. To that end they produce specific gender fragrances.................and charge a great deal of money in the process.

Food, Vehicles, and Major Appliances comes from brick-n-mortar stores.
All else comes from online purchases. I hate the shipping fees, but stores have decreased their selections. Some don't even have the items anymore. It seems like there is no other option but to buy from the web.

if you're buying from Amazon then having a Prime membership means you don't pay extra for shipping fees

Yes, I use Amazon frequently. They are reliable. Prime membership has changed over the years. The fees increased a lot. I dropped my prime membership.

I do get some items shipped for free. Mostly it depends on the cost of the item, or who is selling it. I try waiting until I need several items, then the shipping decreases, or get free shipping.

yes I've herd this about Prime fees rising in the US... I have had Prime membership ever since it first arrived.. years ago.. and it's never risen in price to my knowledge..if it has it minimal...

Now I've spent money. Two bags of Dove Chocolate and some AA batteries, both with Kroger digital coupons and an additional $1.50 Energizer coupon.

When I have a coupon for anything, I buy the smallest size allowed using the coupon so that my money goes a little further.

Plants from the "Clarence" section at the garden center so that there will still be plenty of flowers blooming in the fall. Marigolds, tickseed, black-eyed susans, blanket flowers. And a packet of full-price allium bulbs to plant as soon as the weather turns cold. That won't be for two months at least.

So much for being on a money diet. The good news is that according to DD, I'm on house arrest now so that I'm not exposed to the 'Rona before eye surgery. After that, it'll be a week or so before I can even go out to play so not much money will get spent. Pffft. After the eye surgery there won't be much left to spend anyway!

I try to buy at independent shops as much as possible. I don't buy much, though, as I'm on a pretty tight budget. I don't want to hand my small bits of money over to some multi billionaires who own the mega online shopping sites. My little "line in the sand" for what it's worth!
I strongly resonate with this. I support local businesses. The benefits & advantages of those can't be replaced. I can think of many & diverse locally owned ones in my area that give great service.

I've recounted some stories in previous posts in the last year

My wife was in Ringwood earlier, getting her nails "done." I text her to ask that if she was going into the Waitrose store, could she buy me a canister of Nivea shaving gel, which she kindly did.
she could have got that cheaper in a Savers store.... or any other store tbh..... a whole £2 cheaper in Savers compared to Waitrose...

I buy about 99.5% of what I need (not including groceries) online. In my geezerdom, I am less and less willing to fight traffic, tailgaters, and school buses. Two days ago a pepper mill came in from Amazon. (You can adjust the coarseness of the grind, a feature I like.)

I got caught in school buses yesterday and thought wow school starts earlier in the year than when I was going ?!?!?!
schools start back here on the 2nd of September.....we generally don't have school buses here, so once school begins again the roads are chocka block with traffic.. parents taking their kids to school.. and back again... even if the school is only half a mile away..

Is it time for me to talk about how I walked 1.5 miles to school one-way, in the rain and snow and nasty weather, uphill both ways, and all that while crossing busy 4-lane roadways?

If not, let me just do my customary growl while I put on my Mr. Wilson suit.

I beat you..we walked 2 miles to school in all weathers and 2 miles back ..and believe me Scottish winters are very harsh .. In winter when it was snowing or raining hard..we used to sometimes jump on a bus that was in the days of Open back door buses, and we'd keep our fingers crossed the conductor wouldn't reach us to ask for the fair, before we'd got at least half way ..and kick us off..
