What have you bought recently?

I just now posted over at Kaila's place I bought a tablet for $100 that operates like an Android cellphone. I am using it now. It takes great pics, and I went to a zoom meeting today for my peripheral neuropathy group. There were 45 zoomers there. It keeps me moving a lot more too. I was getting tin man disease sitting at the puter for to long.
I like it. :)

I've heard of taming the shrew... but never taming the mouse.

I have some lawn areas that get deeper shade each year. In the shadows the grass has died out and mosses have invaded.

I've dug out much of the moss, and I'll take a rake and scar up the dirt well. Then I can try this shade-tolerant variety of seed with its coating of mild fertilizer. I expect light rains for several evenings, so this should work out well to get it established before the Summer heat and dryness arrives.

It's a Samsung Galaxy A9+ Tablet. I posted on what u accomplished thread, because 90% of my day was spent on said device. A total Tablet eclipse of a beautiful spring day. Was it worth it? Heck yea!!! :)
I bought my Galaxy tablet in 2018 or 2019. I use it a few hours daily for reading ebooks and doing online word games (wordle, spelling bee, crossword puzzles, et al) and it's still going strong.

I bought 2 Fire extinguishers... they're aerosol type rather than traditional ... I think in the panic when there is a fire, people tend not to know how to use a traditional extinguisher quickly enough, so for small fires, I'v chosen to get aerosol fire extinguishers.. ( altho' I do have a traditional one in the barn)

Last night Amazon bought one of these $40, FitsT4 Sports, Women's Cycling Running Jackets in medium color blue. Weighs 7.05 ounces, model number ‏ SOCCW04. As an example will explain how carefully I choose outdoor clothing that I will also use slightly modified on 2 other web boards.

As a major backpacker, hiker, landscape photographer, I've bought over decades, many windbreakers to complement my outdoor clothing that is not a common item outdoor enthusiasts tend to buy. However because I've been on outdoor web boards as a prominent member for so long, others reading my posts have increasingly been doing so also to the extent designers are obviously taking notice.

When one say Amazon searches with say "windbreaker", one will receive endless pages of hits with over 95% of them for waterproof polyester or nylon products, that this person doesn't target as I instead look for a simple water resistant garment. Manufacturers expect consumers will think waterproof versions are supposed to have higher quality, so use poorer quality parts on simple water resistant fabric products.

And that is especially true for zippers, the most common feature undercutting cost clothing manufacturers use to reduce costs and also the most likely to break and have issues. I have a museum of old outdoor clothing with bad zippers. Of course faulty zippers are also why most expensive tents, sleeping bags, and backpacks eventually fail.

For my intended use, a waterproof shell jacket will also mostly work however the fabric coating and seam sealing adds weight, and makes skin contact feel more clammy, so less breathable. For rain jackets, effective waterproofing that actually lasts and doesn't leak in heavier rain requires seam sealing and more robust designs. Thus if I need to use a real rain jacket, I buy more expensive products and only wear such when it is raining while otherwise swapping it out for products like above as my use is too brutal for waterproof garments to hold up.

Because I often am out in mountains during early to mid summer bug season, I need to protect any exposed skin areas from mosquitoes and black flies. These polyester or nylon synthetics have weave densities that such bugs cannot poke their proboscis though. Instead a majority of still ignorant outdoor users tend to summer hike using classic cotton short sleeve t-shirts and shorts with a baseball style cap and then cry about how they end up itchy, looking like raw hamburger. Many never want to try outdoor adventures again so go back to urban only activities.

I also wear these front zippered windbreakers while carrying on trails my heavy with camera daypacks and much heavier wilderness overnight trip backpacks because unlike a cotton t-shirt, clean quickly, they dry sweat quickly, and can be zipper opened in front allowing cooling where mosquitoes won't land if moving forward.

A key feature is robust zippers that don't grab on adjacent fabric getting stuck or split when sliders spread apart after use. Using cheap zippers is where cheap products undercut costs. Any functional windbreaker should have a minimum of 2 sizeable zippered pockets as products without zippers when hiking will eventually lead to loosing pocket items. This model uniquely also has an extra large one in the back plus 2 internal unzippered pockets. Also use features are an elastic sleeve cuffs and elastic waist. This model also has a hood that I may scissor cut off because I would already be using billed, sun shielding headgear with a neck drape. One can readily find cheap products at half the price.

The Snag-less zipper is born of accumulated know-how

This is why it took 2 days and maybe 3 hours tediously looking through Amazon products just to find this one acceptable windbreaker. The fact it is a women's item is a non-issue since the blue option color selected makes it essentially unisex. Because one cannot examine online clothing product buys and clothing manufacturers stupidly never advertise zipper model features, I had to rely on Amazon reviews to evaluate if zippers had problems. Many products of course have too few reviews so that also filters away many as unknowns.

Went to the garden center and spent my Mother's Day gift card on impatiens. They've already been planted.

Just not understanding why you folks keep buying things like clothes and computers and batteries and light bulbs and shoes. Those are all frivolous. You could be spending money on flowers. Those are necessities ;).
because they don't die at the end of the summer..nor do they need feeding....:D

I just bought a new Shark Navigator vacuum thank to recommendations I got from folks on this forum. I love it and got a good deal, it was already a good price and I had a 20% off coupon at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

I also bought a new soft cat carrier at a local pet store, reasonable price and got $10 off for customer discount.

I really prefer to shop in the brick and mortar stores if I can, I like to see things in person and not have to jump through hoops to return something. I did buy some more Dinovite for my dog this week too, and that was online.
Seabreeze,
I have owned a Shark NV341 Navigator for the last 12 years and it still works perfectly. It was purchased at Amazon. I am an avid Amazon buyer. In fact, I am having to stay away from the site as my finances suck right now! I have ordered dress shirts, winter coats, a couple pair of shoes, two fedoras, underwear and t-shirts through Amazon and every item fits perfectly and seem to be competently made. Brick & Mortar for groceries only. I recently bought a Full Bed Frame, a 3" latex foam topper, some tapestries and kibble. Now, I have to stop spending until next month. It's always the way it goes for me.

Went out early or late, depending on when you sleep. Went to get a loss leaders on meat for the freezer. Stopped on the way to fill the car with gas and a gas can for the mower.

It was very cool this morning. I hoped to see if I could start the mower, get the front cut. Alas, ran out of energy, so went to bed for the day. At least I have the gas so I can try when I am having a good day.
