What have you bought recently?

That's so great; @StarSong. I was speaking to my godmother last week; she's in Sacramento, and she said her daughter (who I think is also up in the north part of the state) brings her oranges from the tree in her yard and they make fresh-squeezed orange juice. It sounded delicious. And I use lemon a lot (tea, plain water, on fresh fish), so the thought of having one literally at hand sounds so nice.

I'll have to try those directions sometime, @hollydolly . I'm hopeless with anything that involves flour, actually. I do like to cook, though.

Maybe I'll practice ahead of time. I've already told my younger daughter I'm going to rent a local Airbnb this coming holiday season so I can host her and her boyfriend and prepare a real home-cooked meal. (My apartment is way too small.)
Honestly it takes just a few minutes to make... as long as you beat or whisk the batter until there are big air bubbles, and then pour it into the HOT oil.. you can't go wrong.. very easy to make ! The secret is in ensuring the oil is very hot in a preheated oven... I hope you try.... (y)

We stopped making OJ from our tree's oranges. We just each eat an orange or two per day when the tree is fully fruiting, and give some extras to our kids and neighbors.

OJ is nearly as sweet as soda and causes about the same sugar spike in one's body. Eating an orange includes a lot of fiber (way more than OJ with pulp), that slows down the sugar hit.

I also have a backyard orange tree and lemon tree - both full size - which is why I was wondering about the mini ones you and HD were mentioning. This is a photo of my orange tree back in December 2023. It's blossoming right now and will fruit over winter. The lemon tree isn't nearly as prolific, but it conveniently produces ripe fruit several times a year. I can pick a ripe lemon about 50% of the time.

I noticed my lemon tress were blossoming yesterday too, and it still has lemons on it. Is this normal?
I've never noticed it before. p.s. i know that's an orange tree lol

Hm, next time I speak with her maybe I'll mention that. She's in her mid-90s, and blood sugar isn't a concern (she's not diabetic, at least).

I would love to have fresh fruit available in my yard. In all the places we've lived, I never did.

If she's in her mid-90s maybe she should be giving us tips!

I don't have blood sugar issues either (so grateful for that), but eating fruit adds fiber to my diet, and juicing doesn't.

I bought another Bottle of Vitamins online this morning. Cost me $15 shipping, but if I went to get them in-store (35-ish miles away, they would likely not have the variety I like in stock. They used to keep a reasonable stock, but like everywhere else nowadays they only sell what they are sent. So to get the ones I want, it's plan B. So a 46.99 bottle becomes 70.00 by the time I get it in the mail. Arrgh... Yes, we've come so far in our Modern Times.

Who was it?
It was a group called Black Jacket Symphony. The description of the band says The Black Jacket Symphony offers a unique concert experience through recreating classic albums in a live performance setting, while providing patrons an unparalleled audio/visual experience. A selected album is performed in its entirety by a group of handpicked musicians specifically selected for that album, with no sonic detail being overlooked—the musicians do whatever it takes to musically reproduce the album exactly as it sounds on the album note for note. They play all over the US.

They did Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon and they nailed it. I can now say I saw Pink Floyd in concert.... almost.

..and yesterday I bought 2 hanging flower baskets for the front and back door to replace the current ones.. also a 5 foot Yucca Plant

25 impatiens that have already been planted and five blue star creeper, also already planted.

Spring starts tomorrow. I don't want it to start without me.
I am currently sorting out mum's garden - it's my favourite kind, a lovely, old walled garden. I have actually got someone in to do all the hard work but, it should all be done for next week and I will be getting some Busy Lizzies (Impatiens) to plant along one border. :)

Been a lovely summery day today. I met a couple of friends for lunch and then popped into the shop and bought some stuff for the freezer.

Yesterday I bought two little packs of pansies and planted them in pots this morning. I’d rather put them in the ground but with our unpredictable weather we could get a surprise freeze again and there‘d be the pansies turned into ice cubes.

I don’t shop online ever, not that I shop much anyway. If I do buy out-of-the-ordinary things, they would most likely be for the yard or the assemblage sculptures I liked to make… again, used and cheap is my motto!
