What I couldn't get this week shopping

I made my every other week trek to Aldi and they were out of dairy products which are the items I go there for mostly. I bought the other items I needed and went home and placed an online order with Wal-Mart. They had every item in stock and I didn’t have to settle for store brand substitutes. Plus, free same day delivery to my front door. Have never been a big fan of Wally World but they do seem to have their act together during this supply chain situation.
yes they do. I shop there weekly and no subs so far.

Oh, I forgot - no peanut butter ripple ice cream, so I bought cookie dough.

I was talking to a woman in church about the high cost of groceires when thw pastor came striding over and said sternly, "Just be happy you have groceries to buy!"
While I generally agree with your pastors words, he needs to shut up and allow two people to have a conversation. He didn't have to say it sternly.

Oh brother. Nothing like a little moral superiority to start the day. Reminds me why I disconnected myself from organized religion.

Continuing store brand shortage of diet sodas and seltzers.

Why are shortages still being blamed on "supply chain disruptions"? That started during the COVID pandemic. We should be getting over that by now.
I agree. They blame it the supply chain, but I think they just take it off the shelves for awhile and hike the price when it reappears.

Just came back from Stop & Shop. I can't remember how long it's been since I shopped alone. Since my last visit, they totally renovated the store, moving everything to different spots. I was quite flustered. I couldn't buy what I was too confused to look for! I must get out more!

When grocery stores reorganize I feel like I'm in a corn maze, and not in a good way.

Talked myself into a trip to Aldi to see if they had restocked. I had typically gone there on Wednesdays, the day I had been told they received their weekly shipments. But, I needed certain items so went on Monday. To my surprise they had all of the dairy items I needed and eggs were priced less.

Nobody has rubber cement glue. The grocery didn't have cookie dough or peanut butter ripple ice cream. Ground black pepper is over $4 for a bottle. My grocery bill this week was $133.37. I think that the most I ever spent in one shopping trip.

Some happy news to report: I was 15 minutes early for my appointment so I stopped into the 99¢ Only store that's about a block from the dental office. I was delighted to see they'd rolled back a lot of the prices that went up over the last couple of years. And I checked - the packages are full size!

I bought a couple of 1 pound boxes of strawberries, half a dozen16 oz bags of dried garbanzo beans, several 24 oz bags of name-brand rotelli and elbow pastas, four large boxes of Jell-O instant vanilla pudding, and a few other things for 99¢ per. My basket would have been fuller if I'd had more time!

Note: I use 1/2 tsp of vanilla instant pudding mix to 1/3 cup of plant milk - the combo creates a frothy, divine topping for my coffee! It's my own creation. Weird maybe, but it works!

Store brand peanuts in the shell. Empty spot on shelf where they should be. The price for a 2 pound bag was $2.99 before the cove then went to $3.29 post cove. Seems like a good price nowadays. I buy 3 bags at a time when they are in stock.

I am still pondering why there are plenty of brand-name products in stores, but a paucity of generic/store brand items.
I think it's when all the store brand items are sold and they need to get rid of the name brand items to avoid over stocking. When the brand name items sell out, then they restock the store brand. I don't know if I'm right or not, but it sounds plausible.

They make more money selling the brand-name products.
The retailers make about the same amount of profit on store brands and national brands. I think they run out of store brands faster because more shoppers are watching their pennies and in most cases there's little difference between store brand and name brand quality.

That’s interesting @StarSong My former SIL owned a grocery store and left me with the impression that they did much better selling the name brand products. If they sold a lot, they got rewards. He an ex now so I can’t ask him.

@Jules, I was referring to large chain stores like Walmart, Kroger, Safeway, etc. Can't comment on individually owned stores. They may do better with name brands because their business model on store brands is very different from big chains.

This was part of a national chain. Some stores were franchised. You’re right that is probably the reason it was better for him.

Despite spending hours searching on Amazon and elsewhere, could not locate a lower priced Windows 11 laptop with an IPS 1080p FHD display of at least 15.6 inch diagonal size I will mostly use away from home without adding any confidential information and or files. Especially for browsing at free public Wifi hotspots so I don't have to worry about malware. May pull the trigger on something less than $250 I won't feel too bad about if it is ever lost or stolen that few thieves would have an interest with. Chromebooks target some of the same customers but require a wifi or Internet connection just to load that OS. So unusable offline remotely.

A month ago bought a $150 15.6" digital picture frame but the SDcard slot stopped working so sent it back to Amazon for a refund. 1080p display was fine but did not like its primitive functionality that had me wishing for a simply computer with an image app like Irfanview.
