Colonel Sanders was real. The designation of colonel was an honorary one. Some sites showed that he was a fighter and was fired from four jobs because of this. He certainly was tenacious about his products. After he sold, he was the spokesperson and not happy about the food. There was a lawsuit against him for maligning the food.
Mars said in the summer that Uncle Ben was a fictional character whose name was first used in 1946 as a reference to an African American Texan rice farmer. The image used on Uncle Ben packaging was a “beloved Chicago chef and waiter named
Frank Brown”, the company said.
- Aunt Jemima is based on a real woman, Nancy Green, who was a storyteller, cook, and missionary worker.
- Nancy Green actually worked with the Aunt Jemima brand until 1923.
