What Is It? - #73

The 'heavy metal' has thrown me... I'm thinking a few coals in it to heat it to melt wax to seal letters etc ... but, ... heavy metal? mmmmmm.

Is it for domestic or professional use? (mainly)

Incense burner?

Not an incense burner, no ...

Ok i will have another shot, is it used for winding thin strands of metal around to make a coil or spring??

Not a spring-makin' thingie, sorry ...

Is it a kind of iron? Heated to iron hard to get at pleats or armhole seams? Or even for ribbons by drawing them over it??

.. iron... heavy metal... still Sherlockin' here.

DING! DING! DING!

We have a winna'!!!

Diwundrin has back-to-back wins for her correct answer of this WII being an iron ("heavy metal").

Specifically this is known as a Goffering iron or Italian iron and was used for ironing pleats in curtains or bonnets by inserting a hot metal poker into the tube, transferring the heat to the outer surface. The rest of the iron - the curving support arm and the base - are simply for when you placed the iron down on a table.

Congratulations Di and thanks everyone for playing! :D

Congrats Di, good job...I'd have never guessed anything so domestic, lol! :yougogirl:phil, thanks for another interesting WII. ;)
