What Is The Most Important Thing You've Learned From Senior Forums ??

That once you start a thread you no longer own it. It is in the public domain. People can and do diverge off into areas that may have little or no relevance to the original post. And that is a very good thing!
i always felt that online communication should be as 'organic' as in person conversations---which means the topic may shift, branch out, sometimes come back to OP as new people discover the thread.

The only thing i don't like is when someone deliberately sabotages what could have been an interesting and fun thread by showing their prejudices. i won't waste a lot of my time arguing--say my piece and i'm out. And i've had a person who contributed to a thread spinning out contentiously demand what i, as OP was going to do to get it back on track. Being male he didn't take a clue even when i said quite clearly that everyone who comments has some responsibility for threads' content not just OP.

Precisely! However if the OP of a thread is skilful and has experience in debating, that person should have very little difficulty in getting the conversation back on track.

Nothing that stands out but certainly various news link that I would not have otherwise read or researched since I tend to ignore much news or social media that could pollute my brain with personally unnecessary stuff I don't choose to think about. The board has value showing the range of thinking by diverse others that have lived during the same recent decades era. Much like working in large corporate offices and labs where to be successful, one must be able to work with on team levels with a wide range of personalities, education levels, social and political ideologies, and behaviors.

I've been here almost 10 years..I've watched every type of people come and go here..I've seen many sides of humanity here and a lot have not been pleasant individuals . What I have learned is that regardless of how old some people get to be, it doesn't stop them being offensive, manipulative and childish.. that was a big shock to me... but fortunately they are in the minority.. and even more fortunately Matrix gives us the gift of an Ignore button..:D(y)

I have learned that there are many people on this forum who probably underestimate just how valuable their presence is here. It may not be family, but it's close enough. We may not know the struggles everyone is going through, but for the most part, we are social beings, and we need that connection. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you really do make a difference in the lives those who frequently visit here. You're the best.

Confirmed what I've always believed, not matter where we live, we are a generation
that has seen many changes.
Some changes come at us at Light Speed, some creep up on us, but we Adapt.

Isn't a day goes by that I don't say to myself, 'I can relate to that' when reading a new thread.

The other thing is that there are no 'dumb' questions.
If someone asks, the replies are helpful and respectful.

Hard to find on other Forums.

I've learned I can get things done but then take a break and chat awhile. Then I can get to my chores, activities, etc. and come back and chat some more later.
In other words, I can socialize without it robbing my time.
that's the greatest beauty of this and other forums IMO.... we can visit with our friends.. and have them visit with us.. but without it interfering with our important daily dealings..

I can have you , and all my other friends here for an hour in the morning, then go do my stuff, and come back and go and visit you in your home.. and my other friends here in their homes.. and no-one need know you haven't made the bed.. yet..:D

What Is The Most Important Thing You've Learned From Senior Forums ??

ah so what is the most important thing [singular] I have learned from senior forums - plural many I assume or as many as I use which must be approx 6 - 8 on and off - here and there - this way and that!! - the smaller ones move at my pace - so relaxing - the larger ones often move at faster paces so can be frustrating and tiring?

some old people argue strongly about everything and can also be quite rude at times - so most sites do seem to need moderating? especially to stop some cussing? all sites declare that they are www - but then sometimes forget and remain insular - very local focused. For example I am a member of one which is just one township - so I don't use it much. All sites are good as a balm for loneliness and chronic illnesses - yes I took the title to be all encompassing for all the sites we may be a member of not just this one?
