What is the oldest thing in your home??

Parts of the walls themselves, as the house was built in the 1860s. Since so many are mentioning rocks, both my grandson and myself are in the habit of picking up interesting small rocks we find walking our land.

There are thousands, perhaps millions on our land of varying sizes, but we only bring in small ones that catch the eye due color and/or composition.

We have found horseshoes, the oversized pie plate shaped pans used to pan for gold, and a 16 inch long 1 inch diameter but tapering to a much smaller point spike, likely railroad one as there are old wooden RR 'ties' all over the property, even part of some walls of house.
 
I just found my George III English coin from 1787! It was with a cup of state quarters. I remember my Welsh boyfriend giving it to me. Wouldn't be surprised if he stole it. It's very dirty, needs proper cleaning. Much harder to read than when it was given to me over 45 years ago. I seem to recall he gave me 2 or 3 very old British coins.
 
A percussion pistol like the one pictured in the beginning of this video. Except the one I bought is double barreled. The filigree on the brass is similar. Dated in 1848 it's in really great condition for it's age. I bought it at a yard sale in Vineland N.J. for $2.00

Geology is an area of science I study. Explore myriad landscapes in California that has some very ancient Pre-Cambrian period geology (>540 million years old) in Death Valley, Sierra Nevada roof pendants, and the White Mountains. Occasionally take home small rocks including rocks that old. Below shows some not quite as ancient bizarre Paleozoic period glaciated landscapes I backpacked into in 2020. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country used that area for some filming because it was unworldly.

My 1948 birth certificate from a downtown Los Angeles hospital.

Furniture wise, an old porcelain lamp my parents bought in the 1950s, here in my living room.

oh, you are right. We do have some fossils here. Older than Roman times, for sure. I think there is an ancient shark's tooth...a few other things...also...all super cheap.

and we have some rocks and minerals. They include a piece of meteorite. Internet says that meteorites from asteroids are about 4.5 billion years old.

the little kit of rocks, minerals and fossils that we bought was about $25. Has about 200 little pieces...

some day I want to make some kind of display case for them...

Is that a dueling pistol or just a regular pistol?

I remember reading that President Andrew Jackson was in a bunch of duels and lived with a number of bullet fragments in him, his entire life....

Maybe we should bring back dueling? Maybe keep more people in line from being so obnoxious.
 
I have the first edition of one of the best selling British newspapers The Daily Express, 122 years old ...even my granny wasn't born at this time... it makes me really aware of just how long ago it was..and yet somehow recent... to think that my great grandparents who died way back in the 40's 50's and 60's having been born in the mid 1800's might have been reading this

I, too, have rocks like Pepper and IrisSenior. I decorate in the "Early Rock" style, haha. I hope that they will eventually get donated to a geology department of a school. Rocks ROCK!
