What is your most valued sense of the five senses?

One of my neighbors had impaired nociception. The inability to feel pain is quite dangerous.

Since I drive everyday, and am artistic, my sense of sight would be hard to lose.

I remember watching a television special many years ago where a man could not sense pain in his hands, and he spoke of burning himself seriously when removing pots and things from inside the oven.

I can't imagine.

With my neighbor you could stick needles in his legs and he wouldn't feel a thing. Pain haunts us all but not to feel pain ever is really dangerous.

My eyesight..for sure, and my very acute hearing!!

However I was born into a profoundly deaf family ( paternal side).. and both my father and one of my sisters had problems hearing being deaf in the same left ear .. altho' not completely deaf like the other family members and therefore able to talk...,

Since around the same time I learned to talk I was taught BSL.. so as to be able to communicate with my paternal aunts and uncles.. so if I lost my hearing I can still communicate, and also with the onset of all the technology today for the Deaf it's not the disability it once was.. but that said who never wants to hear the birds, or your favourite music again?.. not me!!

What is your most valued sense of the five senses?

I consider the sense of touch as my most valued sense.
Yeah, my sense of touch came into play when I stubbed my pinky toe a couple days ago.
Its size began to rival my big toe
So, several senses became employed

Happily, its back to a more normal size and color

Now I can easily put my shoe on and mosey without a limp

I think another sense might be knowing when someone is behind you or knowing you are not alone in a room.

I've read that studies disprove that we know when someone outside our field of vision is staring at us. I believe some can sense they're being watched. Think study designs must be flawed.

Hey Marg! What about the psychic senxes? Telepathy, clairavoyance / Clairaudience? remote viewing/ precognition? and all the rest of it?
Arn't these considered senses?

I'm not Marg, but I'm sayin' probably

Of which I have none

No ESP......nothin'

Seems the other (lessor?) senses become more acute when one is lacking in the psychic abilities.
Thus, when living in the mountains for five years, I became acutely aware of basic needs.
I guess that'd be in the common sense dept.
It gave us a good running chance of survival, especially in the middle of winter, when snow and ice would stack rather deep, and groceries and other needful things were 50 rugged miles away.

We never ran out, or even got low of.....anything

Shoot, when we went to town we had six 5 gal gas cans, and six or more propane tanks.
I even built a special rack for them.
No HaHa about it.
It got so we could spot other off gridders by the number of cans and tanks they had.

Talking about five senses, all that strikes our minds is eyesight, taste, touch, smell, and hearing.

But do you know that humans have a lot more than just five senses? Scientists have done deep research on this topic and have come up with around 22-23 senses that make us actual human beings.

For me it would be sight. Without my sight I wouldn't want to live.
I agree, and in particular I value my ability to see in glorious technicolour. I love looking at the blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds and the changing colours of sunset.

I have often wondered how I would cope if I were to lose my sight but I am grateful for all of the memories of beautiful images that I have stored up over my lifetime. I will dwell on those memories and feel myself blessed. Some people have never experienced the gift of sight.

I have thought of the same more times than I can count, Warrigal. To be blessed with vision from birth and be fortunate enough to enjoy and carry that vision until the end, is a true gift. To be born without vision... I can't even begin to comprehend.

I would have to say my vision, well it's a waste of time putting binoculars against my ear-holes. :)
I agree, why would anyone put a pair of binoculars against their ear-holes. That falls into the category of, "you're doing it all wrong". :giggle:

If ever you have the opportunity to test out a pair of binoculars, Timoc, they go up against you ear-LOBES. Everybody knows that! :)
