What makes a person date-able?Or relationship worthy.

I thought I was an interesting person,I like a lot of different things and am open to new things.
No one I have dated seems to care about that.
I have given up on dating, not worth the hassle.

I haven't dated in decades, but I have to say that the most important things to me were that he was sincere, kind, easy to be with, relaxed, good sense of humor and having some mutual interests is very important. I don't think you should give up on dating Jane, just take a different outlook on it. Don't try too hard, make things easy and friendly and if you click with someone you'll know it very quickly. Good luck, I believe there's someone out there for everyone.

I'm a woman, but I have to say that I'd amend your statement to be "all PEOPLE deserve to be treated special." My hubby and I have been together for 30 years and we still treat each other "special." It works both ways.

I agree completely C'estMoi, ALL people deserve to be treated special, not just one sex. We've been together over 40 years, mutual love, caring and respect goes a long way.

No demands, no expectations, no rules
It’s called dating, not marriage, not even commitments

Had a good time? It may happen again
Gets repetitive? May turn into something

At our age, we should already know what we like seeing,
and what we enjoy in conversation

….being able to see and hear helps

Really?...why ?...Why must you be the sun of his universe?...And why do all women deserve to be treated special?

If all women were treated special...then none of them would in-fact be special. They'd be just like all the rest.

Your reasons / reasoning are exactly why so many people are alone. That constant craving for attention is THE real mood killer of relationships.

You speak of a positive attitude ?? You mean as long as it is positive in your direction right ?
i can’t speak for ‘chic’ but I think everyone should be treated like the most important person in the world to their lover, whomever that might be regardless of gender.

Agreed. For me, it was chance. I certainly wasn’t looking to find a soul mate here on sf, particularly one who was a Taoist monk, and held vastly different sociopolitical views than myself. The Socialist and the sorta- Libertarian, now there is a mix, but hey, it works.

I so agree with you, Victor. Appearance can be very hard to get passed so you can maybe make a connection.

I think it is an interesting question without a definitive answer. Preferences as to behavior and looks are subjective.

For me I like a man with a good sense of humor, who reads a great deal, has an open mind and is still curious about the world.

I think everyone is date-able or relationship worthy.

There is someone for everyone; but they might live in Tahiti.

I do agree...But the OP made it sound like a demand....IMO that is not the way in which to get it. If one goes in with that [demand] I think it would very likely never be .

There's another thing-- baggage and how that is handled. At our ages we all have some of that.

That is a biggie for sure. A friend of mine briefly dated a man whose grown children made it clear that they did not want "daddy" dating. She steered clear of him after that, even though she liked him... just not willing to spend her time battling grown stepchildren.

Why am I so unlikable?

I can't go out and do activities, that is why I'm trying to make friends online.

I can't even get a conversation going,I'm so depressed.

Awww! This is so sad. You have a conversation going.
If it’s of any condolence to you, I often feel the same way and yes it can get very depressing. Not that I’m looking to date as I’m in a relationship.
Don’t give up. There are plenty of wonderful people in the world.

I don’t think it is about you being unlikeable. It can take time to forge compatible online links. What are you interested it in that you would enjoy convos about? If peeps don’t respond on threads, try pm.

Someone said the word Unselfish. For me, that means Let go of everything; worries (all of them), what you want, what you lack, how you look, your age, your ex or deceased, what's happening with your hair, your teeth, your family...let go of everything. Let it go.

Then, three things; 1) Go places. 2) Don't look for someone in particular; specifically, no particular age or type. 3) Go over there and talk to anyone you feel an attraction to, or anyone you sense is attracted to you. Just be unselfish and go talk to that person.

I don't know where or how to begin.Should just put down things I like and see if we have any of them in common?

Yes. Write down some pertinent things about yourself and the things you like to do. Show enthusiasm . If you aren’t excited about your life , chances are they won’t be either. Find your passions and hopefully someone else will share the same and a connection can be made. You need confidence girl. Shine!
