What movie traumatized you as a child?

For me it was The Old Man And The Sea with Spencer Tracy. It wasn’t a scary movie at all, but I was totally devastated at the ending and I recall sobbing hysterically, to the point that my Mum was wondering if she should call the doctor.

What about you?

I wish I knew the name of it! The scene that terrified my sister and me had a row of women dressed in maid's uniforms sitting in chairs in a basement. Their hands were bound and they were forced to drink some sort of poison.

My sister had to have an upper endoscopy several years ago and her gastroenterologist commented afterwards that they had to up her level of sedation to "addict levels" because she tried to fight the tube at normal doses. She told me afterward that under the initial dose of sedation, that scene was in her mind.

I've tried various searches through the years for that scene and haven't been able to find it. We saw it on TV so it had to be on one of the original major networks or PBS since we could only pick up three channels.

I was so frightened by, "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" that when ever I was out after dark, I would imagine him running up behind me with his cape flying out.

My brother and I were both seriously disturbed by a version of, "The Innocents," adapted from "The Turn of the Screw."

My brother was so sensitive he would hyperventilate during most Lassie episodes.

Another one:
The picture of Dorian Gray

We had a painted portrait of my mother in the living room; I was afraid to look at it when I walked by, as it looked like her eyes were following me.

The Incredible Shrinking Man. Especially the end; it was the spider that scarred me for life. Plenty of pathos in that movie as well, as in his relationship with his wife as he is vanishing into the mist. 😭

When I was really little my sister took me to see some movie about invaders from mars living underground. Scared the poop outta me.
Then, at around 11 I saw House on Haunted Hill and the nightmares kept me awake that night.
