There's a local politician who always does that 'me and..' thing..Me and Monica went to the store.
Give the parcel to Monica and I.
I’s and Monica’s parcel has arrived.
One I think is kind of new, probably another fad like Valspeak, Vocalfry, etc., is leaving out some of the letters in words.. for example, there's some ad/commercial on t.v. where the young woman should have said 'student,' but instead says 'stu-ent.'Do young folks shorten words because they really don’t know the full word. I sus that’s what‘s happening. Our dictionaries are changing.
I must be among the very few who not only isn't annoyed by "it is what it is,"
Those central consonants seem to give lots of people trouble and it drives me crazy. When I lived in the south I got very tired of hearing people change the "t" to a "d, saying impordant for important. All the time. Nancy Grace is a criminal lawyer who can't pronounce sentence. She always says sennance. One I think is kind of new, probably another fad like Valspeak, Vocalfry, etc., is leaving out some of the letters in words.. for example, there's some ad/commercial on t.v. where the young woman should have said 'student,' but instead says 'stu-ent.'
If it's just another fad, I hope it goes away soon!![]()
As much as I hate this I have to admit that there have been times when I couldn't think of anything else to say that remotely covered the situation any better!!!It is what it is.

I'm also not fond of hearing people refer to their child(ren) as "my kid" or "the kids"
I do that too cause it's so much work to type it all or it's funny. Boyfriend bf, mother in law mil (I spent too much time on reddit), aita am I the asshole, fr for real, w8 wait, you wot m8.Do young folks shorten words because they really don’t know the full word. I sus that’s what‘s happening. Our dictionaries are changing.
That’s ok. I was talking about verbal exchanges.I do that too cause it's so much work to type it all or it's funny. Boyfriend bf, mother in law mil (I spent too much time on reddit), aita am I the asshole, fr for real, w8 wait, you wot m8.
Re: the second part- I do that! and also clarify by using the word 'my' before 'kid/kids.'It irks me to hear people say the "changed out" this or that. There's redundancy built in that expression. To change something means you took it out or off or down, whatever and replaced it. And it's poor grammar (IMO). I remember the days when it was "I changed the light bulb", not I "changed out" the lightbulb. I think I've just heard it too much when watching the home buying shows.
I'm also not fond of hearing people refer to their child(ren) as "my kid" or "the kids". My son posted this perfect meme about that years ago.

Which reminds me: 'fam' instead of 'family'Do young folks shorten words because they really don’t know the full word. I sus that’s what‘s happening. Our dictionaries are changing.
That photo was taken when I was 23 back in 1973. I'm considerably older than that now, but I don't want to put up a photo of the wreck that is me now, as you may find it rather depressing. You look about 30.
That's a good one. We've mostly mentioned words and phrases that bug us instead of words and phrases that have been high-jacked...including me. I couldn't think of any.slippery slope
I thought my son came up himself with that nonsense word skibidi, but apparently not. It was the word of the yearThis is what it's like trying to talk to kids these days.
They're yappin away at me and I'm thinking to myself...wth are they talking about?
