What Song is Your Personal Anthem?

If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next

Not all lyrics here are what I would refer to as personal to me, but many are. The lyrics are referring to a number of historical events, if you know the song that is. The overwhelming thing I see in this song as it relates to me is the hard work and necessity of protecting children and future generations. The importance of remembering what it is like to be a child. The hard work in trying to remember the thoughts and emotions of a child, in order to relate to them for their own wellbeing.

Some personal anthems don't have to be all about us. Some personal anthems can have layers of significance beyond just being solely about ourselves.

This came out just a couple years after my mother died. It really struck me how accurately he described the feelings of losing the person you felt closest to. I did consider it my anthem.

Sorry for my reply. I was only thinking of how close you and your mom were. It's very sad actually that she's gone and that's your song 🄺

This song makes me cry when I hear it. I was listening to this when I heard my friend was killed fighting a fire. He was a fireman and it was heartbreaking.

Doris Day hated this song and it became one of her most requested.
Doris never hated this song at all. She was reluctant to record it as a single, as she thought it should be included in an album geared toward children. However, she went ahead and did the recording, and when The Man Who Knew Too Much used it as its theme song, it took off. The rest is history, and she was very pleased with it.
