What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

The Thursday Murder Club, free on Netflix. A good, fun, old-fashioned mystery, and extremely funny and well-acted. Helen Mirren's deadpan delivery was priceless.

I've never been a stickler for a movie sticking closely to a book plot. I just enjoy the characters being seen onscreen, hopefully with actors I like.
I'm assuming that with 4 Thursday Murder Club books to choose from, the movie plot is drawn from one of them so I'll delay watching it. Since it's a Netflix original, it should be available for viewing for the foreseeable future.

Really? I have it saved, but I just haven't been in the mood to watch it yet. May be I should get on it and watch it lol.

I love it and will probably watch it again over the long weekend lol lol. For me, it is one of the very few movies that keeps my eyes wide open through the entire series.

Plus watching it over I pick up things that I missed the first few times🫣🫣

Evan Roderick, the actor who plays Finn is also the detective on the new Aurora Teagarden series.

I watched Barbarian last night because Netflix flagged it as leaving soon (it was on my watchlist), and it has a 7+ Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Ugh! I didn't see the appeal, and I don't understand the high audience ratings. It's hard to describe without spoilers, but I found it unorginal and forgettable. I'm going to try to find something else tonight.

I've been a little disappointed in the Hallmark movies lately. All the previous actors have kind of been replaced w/new ones and I'm not too keen on them. So, I've stopped tuning in as much.
They've all gone over to When Calls The Heart....which I don't watch.

Ditto all of that, but this three-movie Providence Falls is not your typical run-of-the-mill Hallmark movie. The actors want to do more follow-up movies and viewers want to see them, but the series producer is saying no.

IMHO if you do find it disappointing, it won’t be because of the reasons you usually find a Hallmark movie disappointing.

I know that some of the long time Hallmark actors went over to the great American family channel (GAC) that is now run by Candace Cameron Bute, the original actress who played Aurora Teagarden.

I think so. I just noticed it at the bottom of their Book to Screen article.

Took your tip, and watched The Thursday Murder Club last night. It was a delight to watch the four veterans ply their trade in a charming story. It was a senior Agatha Christie with jokes that could not have been pulled off by a lesser cast.

The Brits are the best of these types of mysteries. I think it must be in their genetic makeup. I hope there's a follow-up, but it might be a challenge to get that crew together again.

I couldn't help noticing how much better suited Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan were in this film than they were in the series Mobland, which was fairly a dud but for Tom Hardy's contribution.

Oh, wow. I just watched Straw on Netflix, the story of a single mother, pushed past her limits by a horrific day, who just snaps. It's not violent. I found it very powerful and was choking back tears by the end.

I thought Taraji P. Henson did a simply masterful job of portraying her character.

It's probably one of the best movies I have ever seen. But now I think I need a comedy or a silly TV show to lighten the mood a bit.

sadly for me that is only available on Netflix and I don’t pay for any streaming services. You are so spot on about British wit and mayhem combined. Nobody does it better.

I do have some other British murder/mayhem series set to record on my local PBS station.

I watched about 15 minutes of Grizly II on Netflix. The headline for it was that it was a 2025 release with George Clooney and Laura Dern. So I figured with a couple of big A list actors like that it might be good. Wrong.

Turns out it's a low budget stinker made in 1983 and never released probably because it was so bad. But I guess now they figured that with Clooney and Dern's names they could sucker some people into giving it a shot. Turns out Clooney, Dern , and Charlie Sheen are in it alright. Back when they were nobodys. They play the part of 3 kids that go out camping in the woods and get killed by the bear about 5 minutes into the movie. Lol!

Their acting is amazingly bad, as is everyone elses in the movie. And the special effects even worse. The movie starts off with this unidentifed hunter carrying a bolt action rifle with a scope and he shoots this bear. And they show the "bullet" flying in slow motion, but it's not just the bullet, it's the entire cartridge! Lol! And it's not even a rifle cartridge. It's a 9mm semi-auto pistol round! Lol!

The last movie I've watched was "The Flight of the Phoenix" with James Stewart. It was many years ago so it really wasn't the last movie l saw but the one l will never forget and l've made it a part of my life. lt has so many meanings for me: rebirth, renewal, rising up from one's own ashes and starting anew. l have the DVD now and l will watch it soon again.

The following is another way of thinking about it and l love it.

"Over time, extending beyond its origins, the phoenix could variously "symbolize renewal in general as well as the sun, time, the Roman Empire, metempsychosis, consecration, resurrection, life in the heavenly Paradise, Christ, Mary, virginity, the exceptional man, and certain aspects of Christian life".
