What Was Your First Sign Of Aging?

I have had the same issues with memory loss and it steadily has gotten worse. Causes great concern...
I need to know it's normal with ageing and for my age. If it gets worse in the next few months, I'll talk to my doctor about it. I've noticed it in the past 5-6 months.

Good idea @Pinky. I should do the same thing. Some forgetfulness is quite common as we get older, but if it interferes with regular day-to-day functioning it should be looked into.

"Lifestyle factors" likely contributed to it (walking long distances), but what started to bother me a few years ago was knees not wanting to "cooperate" when stepping up or down.

I occasionally lose words but often have them come back to me an hour later. Not helpful at the moment they were needed, but somewhat reassuring in the longer term.

I don't tend to have a problem with other short or long term memory functions. At least not that I know of, or has been pointed out to me. (Or that I remember knowing of or having pointed out to me. Yeesh - this could be a vicious cycle.) I always know the date - at least within a few days. Close enough to not indicate memory issues. Can remember complicated passwords without having to look them up.

My mother never got Alzheimer's but toward the end of her long life (92) she had severe cognitive losses from vascular dementia, likely caused by mini strokes. Heartbreaking as that was, I was spared the pain that most AD families suffer. Mom always recognized me, knew I was her daughter, immediately remembered my name, and her face lit up when I walked into the room.

Losing brain function is a terrifying thought.

What was my first sign of aging? I looked around and noticed the children had left and taken their stuff. 😁

As for not remembering certain words, you mean like when I asked my husband to get me that thing that you stick into your potatoes? A fork? He asked. Hmm, yup. The worst thing is when neither one of you can remember the name of what you are talking about. 😂

At 95, my mother has a better memory than me. I don’t worry about it. Doc says it’s normal. Now if you are holding a fork and can’t remember what it’s used for, that’s when you are supposed to be worried.

Wait. What? Your kids took their stuff when they left?

My uncle had a glass eye, he lived in Canada but when we were kids he and my aunt would come over from Toronto every 4 years on a visit. He thought it was highly hilarious to take it out and chase us kids all around the room with it...
Uncle Joe used to do that with his dentures, after quite a few "wee drams" of single malt...he usually handed out 5 dollars to get us to stop crying, lol

Outwardly first signs were hair graying almost fully by age 50. Inwardly were my joints aching more, much more.
