What Would You Do If You Were Suddenly Rich?

Set up trusts for kids and grandkids. Grandkids trusts focused on making sure they could financially afford higher education if they so chose.
Decide if my wife and I want a different home for the remaining years before I'm chasing orderlies up and down the hallways of a nursing home. If we do want a change, purchase it and have the money to hire movers to get us and what we want to take with us there. We would remain in this same community.
Two new vehicles... nothing fancy.
Through our attorney, give anonymous cash gifts to a couple of my wife's widow friends who are eking by so they don't have to worry about finances every time they even buy groceries.
Set up a scholarship program for candidates wanting to enter the nursing/medical field. Not doctors. Nurses, physician assistants, etc.
Play lots of golf.......

Not tell anyone. Get all my books published hard copy and hire a good marketing team. I like my life the way it is. I was married to a rich guy once. It kind of sucked, which is why I'm no longer married to him. I'd donate a bunch of money to the ASPCA and start a scholarship fund for those struggling to get through college.

I know this is an odd way to look at it, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I could forsee the end of my creativity, the end of hope The rest of my days would be spent, not in becoming better and more highly evolved, but in finding ways to "force happiness" and spend foolishly. There would be legal fights, greedy souls, parties and pretenses, people begging and false expressions. You would be exposed to the worst of society and the most lowly of souls.
I only want enough to live comfortably and no more.
But, if it were forced on me,
I have several copyrights on inventions. I could get patents on them. and . . I would get an old classic Chevy pick-up truck.
I don't even play the lottery because I would never want to be rich.
I heard this today and thought about Your Pickup

Gaer I agree with you. I have seen good people come into a couple hundred k and caused a divorce in one and greedy kids took most of it by guilting her into paying off their house and credit cards. Now they do not speak to her and she is renting a studio apt.
If I received a million, I have already taken care of the kids homes. I was a missionary in the 90's and saw how a little help can change a village. Too much can ruin it. I would take 100K to a little village in Costa Rica that I visit and use it to help some of the small business upgrade a little and a friend start his retreat center. I want to visit Kentucky and do the same for a small town there. I would get a new pottery kiln and a bigger selection of glazes. OK , guess I would build more art space and hire a helper to clean it.
Most of it I would invest and not want to see again. I have never been about money and too much would just add stress to my life. No thank you. Tony Robins once said having money did not mean less problems but you can arrive at them in style. I can afford a new truck now but I like my old Chevy.
If any of you would like to test me on this I am willing to give it a try. :)

What a wonderful life you live! What a wonderful outlook on life! it appears we are much alike in our thinking and creativity!

Thanks for the thought but my creativity is so minor compared to yours. Though I can build great things, just got a call to build a table and fix the automatic chicken door on Friday. :) I am Handy and love to do things for people.
As part of this topic, Once I had more money than I needed I began wearing thrift shop clothes and driving old cars and trucks. The house is big but people accept that I built it myself not bought it. It is hard to say no to people who need or want. I do not let anyone I know go without but the people who think I have money are less real. If I won a few million I think I would not want anyone to know and my life would not change much.

I'd be on a private flight, to Egypt, and a private guided tour of ancient Egypt, with access to everything. I've become enamored with ancient Egypt. This goes so far back into history. Before there were just a few city-states,. Then, BANG, over a hundred years later, there are 1 million, who say, "Yup, we're Egyptians", and there's a nation and civilization. Wow!!!

I came across this show in the Discovery+ program listing. It’s not about lottery winners but people whose luck changed in a matter of minutes based upon last minute choices they made or serendipitous circumstances.

One young man found out after his mother died from cancer that the father he moved in with wasn’t his father. Turns out her boss, who had also died was his biological father. According to the company lawyer, any heir that came forth stood to inherit millions. Paternity was proved and the young man became rich.

A man and his wife were struggling to pay bills. He accepted an offer from a friend to start flipping houses. When they checked the first project, a cottage, the man found several pieces of art that he felt must’ve been the former occupant’s life's work. Some of the paintings were a bit moldy but an art appraiser he contacted said they were indeed valuable, cleaned them up and began auctioning them. The man and his wife became millionaires.

In another story, an imprisoned man got a visit from an old childhood friend who always had a crush on him. Her brother, also a friend, called and told her their friend was in jail. She began to visit him and of course he spoke of his innocence. She promised to wait for him since she felt “love at first sight all over again”. During the year of her weekly visits he did research and was putting together a case for his exoneration which he submitted to an organization that helped innocent people obtain their freedom. Turns out he was indeed innocent. Him and his GF struggled for months after he moved in with her because for awhile she was the only one working. He finally found a job then he received compensation. He called her one day and said Babe check your bank account. There was $101,000 in it. She went thrift shopping and he asked why she bought from discount stores. She said she didn't want to waste the money. That's when he told her his settlement was 8.3 million dollars!

Each episode has 3 or 4 stories and only 5 episodes are available. I very rarely watch these kinds of shows but I became intrigued with their stories. What would you do if you were suddenly rich?
You have such a lovely eye, Diva, I'd buy you another to match the one you have. :)

We took that kind of tour back in 97'. So glad we did. Meditated in the King's Chamber of the Great Pyramid and got up close and personal between the Sphinx's paws. Cairo and Giza. Went to the Karnak temples - V of K's (Valley of the Kings),took a several day Nile cruise.Going to Egypt was fabulous. Hope you get to go!

Thank you Timoc but that's not actually my eye, though it is somewhat similar (to one of my eyes). I had very pretty eyes when I was younger. After having surgeries on both, they don't even match anymore but matching eyes would be nice! LOL :ROFLMAO: I think I had used my actual eye from when I was younger as an avatar. Maybe I'll use that one again.

I'll keep my good eye open. :)

Actually; I wouldn't do much , if anything, different; I live pretty much the way I want now, have enough money. Other than utilities and taxes, I have no payments. I look, yearly, for a vehicle that I would like more than what I drive and am less inclined to change each year.
I may start hiring yard work and snow disposal this year, or not.

Blessings are where you find them, IMO; you make your own life, luck and happiness out of the hand that you are dealt.

Enjoy!
God Bless
