What's a sound that makes you cringe?

The weather radio test....every Wednesday at 11AM. Even after years, that loud sound still gets our attention....which is probably a good thing, as there is no way we would sleep through this if a storm came through at night.
 
Our Sophie is full of nervous habits. The most annoying is chewing herself. It's not a physical condition. She's been to several vets for it. She just gnaws and slurps her back fur through the night sometimes. The sound makes me daffy.
 
Someone snapping their chewing gum. The cracking sound of having a tooth extracted,had that happen twice, now I insist on getting knocked out, also the sound of the drill, and one that I deal with on a daily basis. The sound of someone sniffling instead of taking the time to blow their nose. My hubby does this all the time. He is seventy seven years old and I am still telling him to blow his nose.

fortunately we don't get such things in the UK although I understand the necessity in certain parts of the USA.We did have a tornado destroy a caravan park in Wales yesterday though.
 
"Air raid sirens."

Even though it's more than 70 years sine I last heard one "in anger" the hairs on the back of my neck still rise, and I get that stirring in the pit of mt stomach, every time I hear one tested, and I doubt if I'm the only one.
 
There is a guy in our neighborhood with a scooter, not even a motorcycle, and it is outfitted with something that makes it almost ear-shattering when he drives by. So I guess it's motorcycles that are set up so they make extra loud noise.

I don't think it's the noise as much as the idea that these guys' feel they need to get attention that badly.:confused:

I absolutely loathe listening to someone smack their lips when they eat!

Hearing a child getting a spanking, even though as a mom I spanked my own children.

The sound of glass shattering/breaking... a mug, a drinking glass, a mirror, a dinner plate, anything glass.

A vehicle backfiring.
