What's weighing on your mind today?

I’m more afraid of a Civil War rather than a nuclear war.
People are at each other’s throats. It’s horrible.
That’s what’s been on my mind.

A very good point. A lot of people don't see that all this hatred toward "other" has spread beyond foreign peoples and countries, and has seeped in to every day society. People seem willing to die on any hill, and a difference of opinion has raised up to be fighting words.

I had no idea about lack of air conditioning in Seattle! Must have been a milder climate there until things started heating up.

What I don't get though, is why peeps don't put in window box air conditioners. They're relatively inexpensive and very easy to install in a window. What am I missing there? It must be something because people would do it, otherwise.

EDITED TO ADD:

@hollydolly's post:

"They are very rare because of the way our windows ae made it wouldn't be easy to install one of those...plus let's be fair they are ugly things.. no need for a change in electrical current they'd all run off the same 230 volts like everythig ese.."

Okay, that explains why people in UK don't use them. - Although, would you really care about ascetics if it meant not suffering? Because I gotta say, I would not.

I agree that they are not the most attractive addition to the exterior of a house.

We have both central air conditioning and window box units here because the house has had additions put on that don't get the ventilation well enough. But I haven't put a window box unit in the front of the house, where the master bedroom is, because that part of the house faces the street and it doesn't look nice. And the central air gets to that room well enough that it's alright, (just not as well refrigerated as in the rest of the house), without it.

I'm still feeling for you guys and hope the heat wave breaks soon. 🤗

Side Note: My husband is feeling so bad for my boyfriend that he was on Amazon last night looking for a countertop mini-swamp cooler to send him.
we can buy these things here we don't live in the jungle....

If we're prepared to have an ugly box where a window once was then maybe some people will have them, I certainly have never once seen anyone in the UK with those.... the full AC is very expensive to have installed , all our houses are solid brick.... and or windows are double and triple glazed with UPVC frames..

Mobile units still need a window open to have the hose outside..all defeating the object.. , so we're ok with Fans.. for the most part...

lt's weird. If you you keep having babies you're killing people but if you're having abortions you're also killing people
and *contraception is also almost the same as killing people. Are men having vasectomies also killing babies?
* Years ago, I expressed the thought that I saw little difference between contraception and the "morning after" pill since both actions accomplished the same result.

yes however.. if you think of it like this..... Contraception... the umbrella that stops you getting wet from the rain...... the Morning after pill... ( using the umbrella upside down, and having to tip the rain out afterwards )... so not quite the same

It's okay - just my thoughts. My wife didn't agree with me either, so I don't expect others to.

Well----we were in the DC area at the exact same time! I lived in a community called Lake of the Woods and later, when it was still safe, Fredericksburg. I ran on Lake of the Woods rescue squad as a Medic....small world.
That's funny, @dusty; we were in Fredericksburg, too! And I grew up in central New York.

in case of an imminent nuclear attack I would simply go outdoors and wait to be vaporized.
You're not afraid the survival instinct would kick in and make you try to hide? They say the survival instinct is very strong and that'd be just my luck, it would kick in and keep me alive long enough to suffer a lot, sigh.

I'm with KSav. I don't want to survive a nuclear attack. Not that I think I'd last very long if there was such a thing. I'd of had my time.

Ok, this is neat. Can you tell me where you worked? Did you shop at Giant next to 95? Did you se a vetrinarian? I always went to the salon for my hair that was down going to town...my gal's name was Dixie. Did you shop on Caroline Street when it was in it's prime? I never met anyone from f'burg online.

Yes, that's what boyfriend told me when I was trying to help him with some sort of air conditioner last summer. It's just not a thing there. Which would make sense because, as I understand it, until recent years the climate there hasn't required air conditioning, for the most part.

What did I say that gave you the impression I thought you couldn't buy air conditioners?

Oh! That was husband being thoughtful. He was thinking of a gift for boyfriend that might be nice in this heat.

Generally, when giving a gift, it isn't because you think the person you are gifting to can't get whatever it is for themselves and that wasn't what husband was thinking. He's just a very good person and wanted to do something nice. :)

Anyway, I did tell him that, while thoughtful, it wasn't a workable idea as boyfriend made me aware of the same things you've said here, last season when I was wanting to buy him a counter-top cooler. :ROFLMAO:🤗
