What's weighing on your mind today?

I think of myself as being ''lucky' when it comes to wars..in that I was born 10 years after the end of the 2nd world war. Granted it took 30 years to rebuild the country and the losers did so much better than us... but that aside.. I have never lived through a war . Granted Thatcher the warminger, took us into the Falklands conflict but that was fought a long way away by our Military, and it didn't affect us here at home, except for the few who lost family military members...

So to get to 70 years old and not know war.. ( unlike Americans with Vietnam)... I consider myself very lucky.. and I hope that we all get to the end of our lives including my daughter and everyone's children here...without seeing another war on our own doorsteps...

The heat is weighing on my mind ... so warm.. it's cooler than yesterday , but right now at 1.30am, I can't sleep because it's very hot in my house... 85 deg .. even with the fans on there's hardly any cooling...
My boyfriend, in Suffolk, is struggling with that too, right now. It was 28C/84F in his apartment about an hour ago and he's trying to sleep. 🥵

I'm feeling for you guys.

precisely that..it's horrible... again tho' better than last night, but still not cool enough to sleep.... I put the tower oscilating fan on hgh speed in my bedroom last night for 2 hours door closed, and when I went in there there was absolutely no difference in the temperature..

My friend in Seattle has been having the same issue for several years. Very few homes in Seattle have A/C and thanks to global warming their summers have been getting extremely hot. She had to sleep on her front porch a few years ago because it was too hot inside her house. It was above 100 degrees!

Another of my friends there just had her house remodeled. Her husband said they decided to install A/C because a couple of years ago they had to stay in the house and keep the windows closed due to the smoke from the fires in Western Canada. :(

I've seen the temps in the Northeast and Midwest this weekend and they are unbearable. Very few good choices to live these days when it comes to extreme climate.

What is weighing on my mind these days is the frequency of political violence that is happening. Not getting political because over the years it has happened on both sides. There is always some crazy that feels betrayed by the system and feels the need to go on a shooting spree. :(

Still harping on the heat...sorry... but I had to show you this, that I've just seen posted on the neighborhood App

Hi Seadoug. Geez I'm an old fart but I grew up w/o air conditioning and to this day still don't have air conditioning. I'll just sit right in front of a fan to try to breathe on a 96-degree day. Anyways since you seem to know a lot (and I commend you for that), are Canadians still having problems with extreme fires? I saw a few months back the Minnesota area had to evacuate due to extreme smoke going into their area from Canada.

If so, I feel so, so bad for the folks enduring that and just the same for the animals for whom might be affected. Here? It's always about California fires but in my gut, I feel punks are lighting them on purpose. Sickening as they don't even think about the consequences. Please let me know about the Canadian folks and wildlife as well. Concerning.

How about a bomb spree? So cute! Not.

You are a stronger person than I am! But then I've only lived in Florida and Texas so A/C is a way of life.

Thanks for the compliment, and to answer your question Canada's worst wildfire season was in 2023, although 2024 was also bad and 2025 is producing smoke that is impacting the Midwest (as you mentioned) and the Northeast.

Am I the only one here who smells a Country song?

What's Weighing on Your Mind

Well she always wears a smile
Under green eyes faded blue
As she lays down there beside me
And whispers 'I Love You'.

Won't you tell me all your troubles
You know I've got some too
If we spend a little time
We can work things through

Come closer love, let me find
What's weighing on your mind
Leave all your cares behind
And tell me softly...

What's weighing on your mind

(These first few verses are a bit of a mash of another song I wrote, but I still think it would make for a great song title!)

See I was the same I grew up with no AC,,never even had a fan... and for all my adult life I've had no AC in this house.... because until 5 years ago we never had these extreme temperatures on a regular basis...despte being in the south..

Now I could have it installed even tho' it's expensive because so few have it here in their homes.. but I'm really hoping to be able to move house in the near future so I don't want to spend out on expensive fittings...

You're so nice. Thank you! But this year in '25, are the folks and animals in Canada okay with all of their wildfires going on? Just very concerned.

Well, that sounds smart. We have Canadian members on here? I guess I haven't met them yet. Oh, thanks for the past advice you've given me. So, so very much appreciated!

I am looking forward to the different color alerts for impending TERROR ATTACKS. Remember the orange meant be careful if you have to go out, especially where there are crowds? The red alert meant take shelter, wherever you are. These alerts might be used again now that the bee's nest has been struck.

Paulina with all due respect to my friend SeaDoug who lives in Texas you might be better off asking one of our Canadian members.

Sorry if I offended you SeaDoug. You just seemed to be a person for whom really knows their stuff. I won't bother you again. - Paulina
