What's your favorite piece of exercise equipment?

I had an older elliptical but it wore out on me. I'm thinking of getting another one but my sister is trying to talk me into getting a recumbent exercise bike. She says their better for you. I'm checking into it.

What's your favorite piece of exercise equipment?
My favorite is the pavement. I love going for long walks. I have exercise equipment but they don’t compare to walking a path through the trees and the great outdoors

My bicycle/ Trek brand...next would be Total gym...had one for over 25 years...if it's good enough for Chuck and Christie, then it's good enough for me...lol

I used one of those for the first week I was out of knee surgery. It was good, gives you the motion of a bike without the stress on your legs. After a week I was able to do a recumbent bike without the hand assist. I am sure this machine made that possible, sooner anyway.

The thing pictured below is what they call a "rebounder" at my PT. They make me stand on one foot and throw a ball back and forth with it. I know what you mean though, when you look up rebounder on Google you find both.

I did that when I had my double knee replacement 16 years ago....great exercise for balance and toning.

Our community swimming pool is huge, measuring 50 meters in length, and I have it all to myself at 5:30 p.m. In fact, I am now swimming one kilometer every day and eating less in the hope of losing weight. I found that walking too much on my treadmill gave me a case of exercise-induced vasculitis.

I don’t really have the room or the interest to have a piece of equipment.

I tried exercise bands supplied by my Medicare Advantage plan but they weren’t really helpful to me.

I walk 2-3 miles every day in all kinds of weather, climb up and down three flights of stairs to get from the garage to my apartment to do laundry, get the mail, etc…

I do some balance exercises/tests while I wait for the morning coffee, using the kitchen counter as my exercise bar.

I should be doing some sort of upper body strength training.

The most important things to me are balance, to prevent falls, and strength/stamina for everyday life.

YouTube has been helpful to me in learning how to adapt to age related changes to my everyday life.

Weights and Yoga Balls
I use the treadmill more, but like the weights and balls better.
Wow. Medusa. Welcome back. I haven’t seen you in ages.
I love my balance balls. Not sure if they are yoga ball. All I know is that they are huge bslls filled with air that you have do exercises on.

oopsHave you tried and are you able/steady enough to do what I call inclined counter push ups aka "pushaways" or wall pushups aka "pushaways"?

I find it the best OVERALL (most bang for the buck) workout for my upper body. Targets everything!
I began with 10 (all I could do comfortably) and can now do 60 in two sessions, 15-20 minutes apart.

If you are not up to the inclined ones at your kitchen counter, just do parallel to a wall pushaways until you can do 50-75 easily; then go to the inclined counter ones. Easy to do anytime, as often as you feel like it; even outside against a tree or fence/wall.

A good pilates reformer beats ALL other methods I have tried, when I do not want to be on my feet.
I get my reformer(s) from Spain. They are so well made, real quality workmanship.

My favorites have evolved with time:
Swing set, trike, sidewalk skates, bicycle.
Jr high: running track; mostly dashes. (Don't have the lung capacity for long distance runs).
High school: track; and field: shot put, high jump, baton, chocks, long jump pit, hurdles.
Air Force: Run, exercise routine, repeat for 20 years.
Jazzersize years of the 80s. And of course chasing my four kids of all ages.
Post Air Force- 2000: Yard work and landscaping remodels: pick, shovel, spade, rake wheelbarrow move 9 yards of soil or rock every year. Gym workouts, track jogging, treadmill.

Tried "hot" yoga: thought they were "nuts". Am not fond of sweating myself to death.

One retirement at home: Pilates reformer workouts. (Had to sell my reformer when we downsized: a huge mistake)
Large ball, bench workouts with weights, or machines.

Now, retired, at home: Weight bench, trainer bike with 40lb flywheel, and walk, ball.
Thick yoga floor mat for stretching to keep arthritis at bay and my balance ball still.

When my walking routine of two years got mostly suspended due to foot arthritis this last six months, it has most exclusively been trainer bike and weight bench, kitchen counter pushups for upper body.

Am going to start a new routine in January, suggested by MaidMarian.
Dance routine.
I think my feet will take that as long as I keep it under an hour and/or use a large floor pad.

Am also planning on adding back my pilates reformer. Just have to study the space issue in this house we downsized into.

Still the same as last year and used it again Wednesday.

I think the best piece of equipment is a good elliptical. I was going to buy a used one for a couple hundred, and by a stroke of luck, I came across a guy who had a commercial grade one in great condition that he had to get rid of immediately because it didn't sell, and he ran out of time. He was moving, and I got it for free, and it's fantastic.

Aside from that, dancing is the best exercise on planet earth, and there is plenty of evidence to back it up.

Not enough dance partners out there. I absolutely love to dance, always have loved it.

Well, fortunately nowadays you don't need a partner. I have been to many gig locations where local bands play, and people who feel like dancing just get up and dance. It's like everybody is just dancing with each other. It's pretty cool.

Once you get used to shedding your inhibitions, it can be a lot of fun. You will notice when others start getting up to dance, and you just go join in. I have done it hundreds of times. After doing it a number of times, you will begin to recognize others who regularly go and enjoy dancing. Just do it.

You have me thinking now...perhaps another NY Resolution: shed my inhibitions. Whoa Nelly! Errr: dancing
