What's your Opinion/Thought on People Who Leave A Mess At Their Table

I was in Adelaide yesterday ,and while in the city we decided to have a takeaway/ fast food lunch which was a Yiros,The area has many fast foods from MacDonald to KFC ,subway Chinese etc ..

Our problem wasn't finding a table/ chair to sit at, We had a choice of a a couple of dozen or more , but ALL of the tables had used food/ drink containers, and scraps on them, many had food/ drinks spilled on the chairs/ floor

When I see a huge mess like that I wonder if people who leave such a mess, and can't be bothered putting rubbish in nearby bins live like that at home ?

I have heard people mention that's what the cleaners are there for to pick up the mess/ rubbish
,I agree to a certain extent they wouldn't have a job if everyone was clean and put their junk in the bins, but I could never walk away expecting someone to pick up my rubbish and put it in the bin when it's not hard to do it yourself
there is always plenty of bins available

However the very few times we eat out at such places we clean up after ourself and never leave junk on the tables ..sure the table MAY need a wipe after but no one has to put our rubbish in a bin.

My dad taught us the same idea when we had a picnic in the bush.
He always said we should always leave a place in better shape than we found it.
I even pick up toilet paper that is strewn of the floor of a cubicle.
Dad taught me well.

I hate when people leave a mess behind or litter intentionally. They should be fined, lazy b**tards.

if there are crumbs on the table after I finish eating at a hotel ,I wipe them into a little pile and brush not my hand to put on the plate

I like a McDonalds takeaway as a treat very occasionally, as I know they aren't good for me, however I would never dream of eating in one of those places!

On the mainland (Europe) in some countries you are expected to clear your table, and in Germany, for instance, even small children, normally totally respectful, will shrilly use the familiar, and to an adult insulting, "Was machst du?"

Sometimes the employees are too busy, sometimes they are unobservant or just plain lazy. If I can't find a clean table, I mention it to someone behind the counter and ask for a wet cloth. Sometimes they hand me one, sometimes they send someone out to clean tables. They are supposed to use a disinfectant when they wipe down eating surfaces, but I rarely see that happen, and have no way to know if those wet cloths have been soaking in a disinfecting solution, so in any case, I always use napkins as placemats.

I have no idea what you are saying 'they' are saying.

My husband was at a seat at a sidewalk cafe across the street from White Rock beach one time and as he and a friend were sitting there, a seagull flew overhead and left a deposit on their table. Fortunately no coffee cups were down below but when my husband called a waiter over and asked to have the table cleaned, the guy simply wiped the mess up with the cloth in hand, 'polished' the table top with the same cloth and then walked away. No disinfectant spray in sight either then or as they continued to drink their coffees! Moral of the story, don't put your cutlery down on any table top unless you see them carrying around a bottle of cleaner!

I always pick stuff up. Even in a place like Panera where people regularly leave trays, cups dishes. I feel for the staff in those places. They're busy enough preparing orders. The least people can do is bring their trays and dishes up to the front and save somebody from having to bump through the dining area.

Most fast food courts in the downtown business core of my city have readily accessible garbage/recycling bins and staff to clean and wipe down tables on a regular basis, and are quite clean and nice. However, in certain areas of town things will be messier, especially if its near a high school or on a weekend in a busy shopping mall.

Thanks QS. My German is a little rusty :). Actually, I can actually say that because my mom has said that my first language as a kid was German but once I started school I guess, that ended.

I pick up my plates, cups, napkins, etc. and thrown them in the trash. I leave the wiping down of the table to the establishment.

I find it disgusting how people leave picnic areas and tables. I might add that I also tidy up my hotel or motel room before I leave as well. I put all the dirty towels in one area, and make sure anything I don't want is in the waste basket and not left all over the counter tops. It only takes a moment to do this. I looked in one room that the maid had left open, that she was about to clean, and saw pizza crusts all over the place! What slobs!!!

Linda, how hard is it to push your chair back under the table? That's my pet hate when eating out.
That's one of my pet hates also how hard is it to pick up chairs and put them under the table ..I'm with you Linda I just could not walk away and leave a mess of any description on a public eating place table..I don't live like that at home :)

We clean up after ourselves and push the chairs back under the table. I wouldn't dream of expecting someone else to pick up my trash.

Agreed. I'm lenient when the offending party has harried parents and small kids, but for myself and party, we clean up after ourselves. I especially hate it when the mess of crumbs and spilled food extends to the floor. That's dangerous as well as being messy.

I usually throw trash all over the place when I'm done eating. I figure, hey, gotta help the economy. I do my part by providing work for underprivileged youths and senior workers.

I feel especially proud when I squeeze all those left-over ketchup containers on the table and floor.
