Where is the poshest rest room/toilet you've been in?

Empress Hotel in Victoria. It is a world class hotel and the old world fixtures were exquisite. Marble, carved wood, elegant stained glass sconces, huge claw foot tub, and gilded mirrors. Fabulous! It has since been refurbished somewhat, so the bathrooms may be very different.

A friend once took me to a fundraiser at a millionaire's house. One bathroom I saw had a solid onyx tub and a gold toilet.

It reminded me of the old Benny Hill routine:

Benny (on the phone): "I very much enjoyed my visit to your home and was impressed with your purple velvet bathroom with the gold urinal."
"You don't have a purple velvet bathroom with a gold urinal?"
"Oh, you say you DO however have a purple velvet case with a gold euphonium.... I had no idea you played the euphonium!"
"Oh, you'd don't anymore. Got rusty, hmmmm."

Lulz.

In the 50's there was a movie theater in Hackensack NJ where I grew up.. It was either the Fox or Oratani. They were across the street from each other. It had the most spacious restroom I had ever seen. Off to the side was a sitting area with huge mirrors and dressing tables with benches all around. A chandelier, over stuffed sofas, and chairs with big claw feet. A thick marble coffee table which always had fresh flowers in the middle of it. Pillars all around also. As kids we would sit in there and wait for the next showing of the movie and watch it over again. Know one ever checked.

I remember when almost all the theaters in town had lavish ladies' rooms. Couches and comfy chairs and mirrors galore. I can't imagine why we needed anything that fancy in a theater but there they were! The big department stores had fancy ladies' lounges, too. I guess the ladies needed somewhere to go swoon for awhile in the midst of a vigorous shopping trip.

So true, jujube. They probably needed a place to go to make sure their seams were straight on their stockings, maybe their girdle shifted or falsies dislodged to somewhere under their rib cage during all that shopping or movie watching depending on who they were with. The hair needed more spray or needed to be re-teased and of course the makeup that had to be reapplied with a trowel. All this was very strenuous and a proper lady needed a nice place to recoup.

Let's talk about toilet injustice! I have been using men's rooms for 70 years. All men's rooms are pretty utilitarian. I've never had a conversation about being awed by a plush urinal. Some really upscale places may have a selection of aftershaves. None of them have had lounges with day beds and couches. I could never figure out why there were couches in rest rooms. It's just sheer out and out injustice.:)

First time I went into a full fledged casino I was impressed with the fixtures and the person handing out towels. More went down the drain on the casino floor that night.

Sometime in the late 80s, my first wife and I were in a hotel in Montreux. I just remember the large stain glass window in the bath room.

Edited to add: Thanks to google maps, I'm certain it was the Palace

My wife complained about the "squatty potty" at the bull ring in Rhonda Spain.

Oh, those squatty potties. Hard enough to use at normal times, but I went through a pregnancy while living in Turkey and try to use one of those when you're carrying a whale in your abdomen.

I had to use one a couple of times last year in Turkey and all I can say (sing) is "THESE KNEES AREN'T MADE FOR SQUATTING..."
