I'm not being a butthead, but did you know that a large portion of the US population gets free unlimited healthcare for life? Families, mentally ill people, disabled people, drug-addicts and alcoholics, and terminally ill people can get free unlimited healthcare for life if they can't afford insurance even if they're employed. (They can also get free groceries for life.)

That can change if and when their financial situation greatly improves, though.

No I didn't know that.. However you don't have to be mentally ill or suffer from an addiction in this country to get free unlimited health care... and that includes the poorest to the richest...and that's for life, regardless of your status

Now this is no slight on the USA.. but many people in the US think a certain way about the UK, according to how you've been taught by politicians...

This guy is from California, and he loves his country but has been living with his family in England for the last 12 years and is here to tell Americans' what they've been told about the UK and Europe is wrong...

A good buddy and former co-worker of mine lives in southern England. He's told me quite a bit about the healthcare he gets, especially with his recent leg injury. I wouldn't trade the level of care I get. He's close to my age, retired, has a little nest egg that he rarely touches, so a good comparison, situationally.

That said, I'm not one who believes my gov't gives a rat's patoot about me and my fellow Americans. They know what we like to hear (or at least they think they do) and they have a vague idea about where to toss the crumbs, and that's about it. Still, I like it here a lot (so far).

You and I are on the same page except I never owned a luxury, gas hogging car. My first and only new car was a 1994 Toyota Camry.
 
At first I thought 1 and 8.

But for me, "Free groceries for 5 years" is like going to an All-You-Can-Eat-Buffet for every meal. Simply because it's there, I would tend to over eat. Then all the money I saved would have to go into Medical Expenses , Self-Help books, Tummy-Tucks and Therapists. Seriously, have you ever gone to an All-You-Can-Eat-Buffet and eaten mindfully and sensibly? If you have then you didn't get your monies worth lol.

So I would go for 1 and 5 and cross my fingers for a convertible Lexus. They last for over 300k miles with very little maintenance.

Too funny Lara. My husband and I used to love going to the Chinese buffet. He's gone now and I'm eating half of what I used to which wasn't much in the first place so I definitely wouldn't get my money's worth. Ironically the last time I went to one was the evening before he passed after long hours at the hospital. One of his devoted nieces was there too and she went with me.
