CNN reports an imposter Christianity is threatening American democracy. Some call it a Christian revolt from the photos of people who stormed the US Capital 01/6/21 during the attempt to overthrow the 2020 presidential election. The insurrection marked the first time many Americans realized the US is facing a burgeoning white Christian nationalist movement. The movement uses Christian language to cloak sexism, and hostility to Black people, and non-white immigrants in its quest to create a White Christian America.

White Christian nationalist beliefs have infiltrated the religious mainstream so thoroughly that virtually any conservative Christian pastor who tries to change its ideology risks their career. Some key beliefs tied to Christian nationalism.
1. Belief that the US was founded as a Christian nation.
2. Many want to reduce or erase the separation of church and state.
3. A popular belief among Christian nationalist was founded as a Christian nation; the founding fathers were all orthodox evangelical Christians; and god has chosen the US for a special role in history.
In a survey conducted by the Barna Group that conducts surveys about faith and cultures for communities and non-profits found an increasing number of American Christians strongly believe the US is Christian nation, has not oppressed minorities and has been chosen by go to lead the world.

No one more dangerous than he or she acting on god's behalf.

A British author said something like: If you can manipulate the meaning of words, you can manipulate the people who must use the words... and those individuals are really going at it, STARTING with the word 'christian.' These individuals are NOT Christians!!! I've heard them referred to as home-grown terrorists- and that's more accurate.
 
Just an FYI...did you know the Catholic church helped the Nazi officers escape Germany at the end of WWII and hid them and relocated them to other countries, like Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and surrounding countries?
 
In my younger years, I attended Protestant services regularly. My Mom's family was Catholic, and I went to several of their services. In High School, I had a couple of Jewish friends, and went to a synagogue with them a couple of times.

As I grew older, I began to listen more closely to the language being spoken from the pulpit, and began to realize that the Most important part of the service was the passing of the "collection plate".

I firmly believe that there is a Supreme Power guiding the universe, and that we must live a responsible life if we expect to continue on, but the primary purpose of organized religions is to wield "power" over the "believers".

Nasty stuff went on before this, also. Both America and Canada, supposedly Christian nations, turned away boat loads of Jews hoping to escape Hitler’s Germany. They returned to Germany. Few survived the Holocaust.

I was raised Christian. But I converted to Zen Buddhism during college. I am sad to see all the suffering and misery brought to the world by people having conflicting views about 'God' and feeling they personally must intervene and do 'God's work' because 1); this is a requirement of their faith and salvation, essentially their ticket of admission to Heaven and Paradise and 2); feeling that God hasn't performed to their expectations, hasn't stepped up to the plate, struck down their enemies and 'cleaned house' like All Powerful and Omniscient Gods are supposed to be doing. I mean, aren't folks paying agents of this GOD whatever it is tithes and hard cash through their church offerings and whatnot? If your gardener doesn't show up for work do you keep sending him a check each week hoping he will return someday and fix your yard? And lastly, Isn't Christianity supposed to be about love? Where did all this hate come from. In the name of Christianity?
 
Even though I'm an atheist/agnostic, I know and love and respect some religious people. I guess the way I feel is like the warlord (or whatever the character was, anyway he was not religious) in that movie, I think it was The Devil at 4 O'clock, who tells the priest that he likes some religious people but not religion itself, that he likes some of "the singers but not the song."
 
People who act irresponsibly in the name god do so because god's will cannot be proven or denied. Because the fear of god is real to many people, perpetuators who endorse themselves as god's chosen ones do so as a cause to in their minds to cleanse and lead the world as god's disciples.
Ironically, the Old Testament is no different than today. Wars in the Bible begin in the first book, Genesis. The Israelites fought in accordance to god's commands and their god assisted them in the destruction of cities and peoples, including the Amalekites,(Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy), the Canaanites, (Numbers) and the Amorites (Numbers, Deuteronomy) Few of these wars can be proved, and god's involvement is a question of faith rather than history.

Anyone can claim they are acting on behalf of god's will, making him or her a terrorists or a fruitcake.
