Who are we? (The thread on religion, that Lennon's "Imagine" receives not a single "Like"!)

I'd rather believe that I'm the "village crazy", or that I'm on everybody's ignore list, than think that nobody has a little bit of a "dreamer" inside them... :(

Thank you for your reply!

It is not a personal matter. I have been and will continue to be to the very end a "dreamer". I would love to see people realizing that nothing, really, separates us, other that the artificial walls that we build between us.

I was disappointed by the (non) reaction of the people on this forum. I would hate to think that I'm the only "dreamer" around.... :(

Hey!

I know that people on the forum have dreams.
I was referring to The dream which would be the hardest to achieve!

Thank you for your reply!

My personal dreams are unrelated to my observation. Lennon's universal "dream" is way beyond any of my "petty" personal dreams. The thread I referred to has been on since Tuesday. What Do Real Muslims Believe?
My post with Lennon's "Imagine" was posted yesterday.

As you are probably already aware of is SF has a very large number of diverse subforums and most members here read, give props or respond as they see fit to one, two or more subforums, while others pick and choose topics for different reasons on different days of the week, time of day, subject matter and so on. Some more animated members shotgun post any and everywhere they see fit. To each his or her own. IMHO the best way to attract members to a particular thread as the OP is to start your thread with an attached poll. Take care.

My favorite Lennon cut.

Thank you!

I am aware how the community of SF behaves in general. As I said already, I was just expressing my disappointment that a thread with many visitors/views, with many replies, opinions and positions, no visitor found an "excuse" to give a thumbs up to a "crazy" dream. I'm not interested in polling for opinions or attract anyone. It was just some food for thought. Thanks again for your advice/suggestions.

Thank you for the excellent Lennon cut. He lived centuries ahead of the rest of us.

I can relate to the feeling of disappointment about a post not getting any likes. In fact, I got so disappointed about a thread I started here on SF that I worked kind of hard on, gathering info. and placing helpful links within the thread; but when it got absolutely no likes or replies, I had Matrix remove the whole darn thing. Yeah, that sounds petty but I was having a bad day (family/neighbor stuff, etc.) and I've found (for me anyway) that sometimes I need to forget as much as possible about what I'm disappointed in, just move on when possible. But you know, this is not the only forum that happens on; it's happened to me and others on lots of internet sites; in fact, another site I'm on, a member started a thread called "Why Am I Such A Thread Killer?"

Thank you for your kind words!

The truth is I didn't really care about my post not getting any "Like"s. I didn't contribute anything to the post itself to deserve any reward. I was only the messenger of a concept, an ideal. What disappointed me was the fact that the concept of Lennon's song didn't get any thumbs-up. I was hoping that at least a few visitors would share Lennon's (and my) dream of having a united world with nothing to cause enmities between people.

Again: Thank you for your empathy!

You're welcome. My problem is I do care about getting likes, too much probably, but that's just me. As to a united world, there are those of us who do still dream about that but I fear that there are at least as many (unfortunately among those in power) who believe that war and conflict is natural for humans. I disagree with that being natural for humans but others don't unfortunately.

War and conflict is the result of greed. Greed of the powers that be is the one thing that keeps people hating each other. When people, the masses, realize this, the dream will come true.

I would like us to live in peace and harmony. However I absolutely hate that insipid, overplayed, oleaginous song, especially the line about "no possessions" from a guy who was worth about $800 million when he died.

I'm not really concerned with Lennon's worth. The point is the ideal of the lyrics and whether one agrees with them. Don't pay attention to the messenger but to the message itself!

"Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world"

That's socialism!

Maybe socialism is the answer. Capitalism sure has made a mess of things.

Can you point me to a country where socialism actually works? Please don't mention any of the Scandinavian countries, which are capitalist countries, albeit with fairly robust social support programs. They're also countries with small, homogeneous, highly educated populations.

Socialism is, by definition, community ownership of the means of production. It has never worked and never will.

Oxford Dictionary

"a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole."

Hate the message, in that I like religion, don't have any problem with possessions, and love my country. Plus the song is simplistic, sappy and devoid of insight. When it comes on the radio, I change the channel.

Let us agree to disagree then. The message of the song is what the world needs to become a better place IMHO. But I don't expect everybody to have my POV. :)

Would it be too controversial if I said that Christianity was the beginning of Socialism? :)
Not too controversial for me. However, I think socialism began earlier than that: many reputable sources think that the hunter/gatherer societies--societies that humans spent hundreds of thousands of years evolving to live in, societies that humans spent at least 25,000 years living in--were mostly socialist, some of course less so, but all at least somewhat, socialist.
