Your teacher was a moron. If a child loves to sing, that's enough without causing a complex. My sister had a teacher like that. My sister never sang again after she was told to just move her lips & not make a sound.

When I was ready to graduate my father heard the same teacher was bad mouthing my older sister, whom never graduated. He went up to his house, called him out and decked him leaving him out cold laying across his sidewalk. This on a Saturday evening during the summer. I found out later that my dad had quite a rep for anger. My sister was a good singer.
