Who is your favorite singer? Past and present.

I'm not up on the present singers. My era is the early 60s & Beatle era. (BTW, after 50 years, there is a reason for the "Beatles" name. The name refers to the "beat' of the music, thus "Beatles, "not the bugs . I never knew that.) I loved Ella Fitzgerald. Not the scat, jazz stuff, but popular singing. The sound just fell out of her mouth without effort. It was so pure. Otherwise, Peter, Paul and Mary. Showing my age.
 

Tony Bennett, still puts a song across with great style.
Mick Jagger, rock's top voice, for his style of tunes.
Ella Fitzgerald, nobody smoother or jazzier, depending on the tune.
Judy Collins, amazing in her earlier days.
Dolly Parton, Country's "countriest" singer, in her prime.
Roy Orbison, an otherworldly voice, still amazes me.

I stood in line, in the rain, in 1973, for three hours, to get tickets to his Chicago Lyric Opera debut as Rodolfo, in La Bohème, when I was in college. He was amazing! His arias still move me to tears.

I always heard they named themselves the Beatles because they were huge fans of Buddy Holly & the " Crickets" So Lennon did in fact choose another [bug]? As a tribute to his hero?

Female , Emmy Lou Harris

Male , Alan Jackson. Vince Gill......they're neck&neck.

Although it does somewhat depend on the [type] of music. Examp;....I sat damn near spell bound the other night listening to the Celtic women concert..........Beautiful !!!!

Always really liked this song Danny Boy I also like seeing solo performance on the fiddle.


 
Present-Andrea Corr.
Past-and indeed present as she has a new album out-Suzy Quatro Clad in her black leather my fifteen year self rather liked her.And she still wears it on stage.I saw her last year.

I'm from Atlanta and we had some good times tubing down The Chattahoochee.

I had Peter,Paul and Marys first album back in the 70s.
 
Dean Martin. Once I got into country and Western music I loved Rex Allen, Ernie Ford, Jim Ed Brown, Marty Robbins, Sonny James and a slew of others. Not many women singers though. They all sound like a bunch of howling cats on a fence especially todays female singers. I did like Skeeter Davis though.
