Who locks up !

Exactly. We have never been "victimized" but we have enough sense to lock our doors in a major metro area.
Was kidnapped and tortured for 10 months so certainly have been victimized

Now I refuse to live in fear. Now my husband no longer works night shifts so is home with me. If I don’t lock the doors, he does.

We live in a rural area which isn’t a high crime.
We’ve also got awesome watch dogs 🐕 🐶 Lol.

Keesha I am so sorry to hear what you went through.

....thankfully in over 40 years, nothing bad has happened

Well, duh. Not with Cat Guard on duty

We double check each other, deadbolt doors, coffee pot off, meds taken.
We live in town now. It's a no brainer.

When we lived at the cabin?
Oh yeah.
Doors locked, guns at the ready.
Even when we slept in the meadow...especially when we slept in the meadow.
No need to tempt the renegades.

I live alone in a rural area, but am about 200 yards from my parents house. Anyone coming to my house has to pass theirs and mine is at the end of the road. I keep windows and the front door open when weather permits. My little mutt is a great watchdog and lies out on the front porch when the door is open, so I have ample warning if anyone comes down the drive. Never lock my car. At night I lock up everything and set the alarm.

Well, bows head, we never lock the door, unless we go away for a few days... more then not, the keys are always in the truck and unlocked... Living rural and a very long laneway... and the boys (my pups) know when someone stops at the end of the laneway for something... Yeah, something could happen, at it hasn't... so we don't think about it...

I once had a neighbour who had been burgled. He was so angry with the thieves that he not only then made his house like Fort Knox, but every day at sundown he went around the outside of his property preparing 'booby-traps' for unwanted night-time callers. He had trip wires that switched on lights and alarms in remote parts of his garden. He even connected car batteries to the locks on his sheds, in a way that would give intruders a 'surprise'. Whenever he opened the front door to callers, a cricket bat was always close to his hand. He was never burgled again.

I lock up every night faithfully.

Throughout the summer months, windows are open (screens), and sometimes I'll even open both entry doors of our house leaving just the storm-door window screens to allow for even more air circulation through the night, no problems as of yet.

Like, Win, we reside in a desirable area of town away from all the riff-raff, and we're all cognizant of strangers happening through our hood that don't belong.

With hubby home, I never worry, and when he's out of town, I still don't worry.

During a 55 year marriage, there are some "pinches"... some very minor things... that spouses have. One of ours is my wife's "inability" to close a door. Kitchen cupboard doors... how many times have I come close to running into one. Garage doors... let it snow inside the garage. Today, she returned from a short trip with a friend and left the front door wide open when she walked in. It was 18 degrees outside!!
I spent the last 15 years of my career out on the road. Home most weekends. I would hate to actually know the number of nights she left a garage door open or doors unlocked. But... we survived thanks to a really quiet neighborhood.
Since retirement, I check all the doors each night before I head in to bed. They are usually locked, anyway, as I lock them when walking past or going in or out.
If that's the worst "pinch" we have in our 55 years... I most certainly will gladly deal with it!!! She's a special lady!!!

I am the Sheriff around here and always lock up before hitting the rack. All those years standing Security Watches on various Navy Bases and Ships just sticks to a person.

I have had one episode with a Cat Burglar and one with a midnight window peeper. I tackled the peeper and held him for the police. (He pissed his pants.) The cat burglar outran me and I quit chasing after a couple of blocks. Being buck naked at three in the morning influenced my decision to end the chase, ..... but he did look pretty worried.

It is just best to err on the safe side and do a better job of locking up. The cat burglar had already gotten into a dozen home in our neighborhood before he got to meet me.

I live out in the sticks. Most come here because they got lost. I live alone. A couple years ago, I was laying on my kitchen floor. I called 911. EMS comes. My front door is open, I can hear them looking around for a key. I tell the guy on the phone that my door is open. He relays it to EMS. They're STILL looking for a key. I tell the guy on the phone the door is open................,EMS is STILL searching for a lock box. NOBODY tries the door knob. This goes on for over ten minutes. I'm screaming my head off, "The door is open". ,and someone finally tries the door. I don't lock my door. If my door would have been locked years ago, EMS would still be outside searching for a damned key.

When I first became disabled, I used to fear not being able to protect myself. Now, it doesn't bother me.

I lock everything all the time. I live on Bay Area Blvd. and all kinds of folks are walking up and down the street. At lunch I unlock the patio door so the office maintenance man, Jerry, can put my mail on my kitchen table if I am napping. I am usually awake to greet him and we talk for a few minutes and he catches me up on any news going on in the complex. They put notices at the mailbox if the water is going to be off for repairs, etc. So he lets me know so I will not get caught in the shower with no hot water.

We have been having a lot of repairs the last few days with pipes bursting and people trying to get things repaired. So far my power is still on and no pipes bursting. I am letting my faucets drip. Tonight and Friday night we are supposed to have a hard freeze and then slowly start a warming trend. Hope the forecasters are right. If I wanted to live in this kind of weather, I would move further North!

I grew up in the time when no one locked doors and keys were left in the vehicle(s).

That changed when ms gamboolgal and I married and moved out to West Texas.

We have always locked our doors and we continue to do so now.

There is alot of crime out there and folks who do not respect property and the lives of others.....just sayin....
