Who on earth is Taylor Swift?

I actually quite like Taylor. In fact…I like most pop music. Even rap has it’s moments.
I like Taylor Swift too. She’s a talented, intelligent woman who does a lot of charity work. She gives away millions to charity.

Since her career really began in 2003, Taylor has been donating generously to schools across America to help improve education, access to books, and more. She has also donated money and thousands of books to libraries and schools around the world, so that children everywhere can get the education they deserve

I think Swift is the one who replaced Britney Spears in the "oh, look at me" pop culture world. But I don't know who replaced that kid from Canada -- Justin Bieber (I think). The point is, there's always a current heartthrob or cute chick with a microphone and maybe a tattoo or three.

Meh.

Some of these posts have me agitated. I don't particularly like Swift's music (we all seem to get stuck in the music of our youth), but I do give her credit for what she's done. She appeals to women mostly from very young to around 60, and yes, many of them spend money and time going to see her concerts. So what? She gave everyone who worked with her on the Eras tour major bonuses (truck drivers got $100,000 each) and gives a lot of her money to worthy causes. I think she is all right.

I honestly don't know. Am I unusual in that not only do I not know but I don't really want to know!
Gone are the days when I had interest and good knowledge of pop music of the day. Now I have not a clue. I admit I don't know anything to about Ed Sheeran either, except people seem to worship him.

Am I the only one and am I missing out on something?
Millennial popularity,so I've only seen her ads for the Canadian tour she just finished, see acting a football jock.

Some of us actually progress from the music of our youth. I'm glad you enjoy music at all. Question for you -- how much of Swift's tunes feature her singing auto-tune? Please note that has nothing to do with her philanthropy, as you put it. I'm talking chops. Musical knowledge and performance.

It's an honest question, because I don't know. I stopped paying attention to popular music back in the mid-70s, maybe earlier. Certainly when disco became the rage. All I know is there is always some cute chick who becomes the rage, whether or not said chick has chops.

I'm big on chops. Philanthropy, like Oprah, not so much.

YMMV.

At Christmas time she gives all the people who work for her a million dollars as a bonus.

I do believe we all try give at Christmas time commensurate with our discretionary income.

When I saw you post I thought: "And as SHE should! God gave her talent to make mega$$$ therefore she should play it forward...".

Just because she has the discretionary income to give million dollar bonuses at Christmas does not make her a better person that anyone else.

I wasn’t suggesting she was a better person by giving away lots of money at Christmas time. I was merely stating that she was very generous with her money. She does pay it forward. She doesn’t have to. Not all mega stars are generous.
