Who was your favorite character on the original Star Trek?

being Scots, we could never take him seriously because his Scottish accent was so terrible...
You forget that Scotty was from the future and his 'terrible' Scottish accent might just be a glimpse of future times?

I just liked him for his somewhat cantankerous response to everyone on the starship, including the captain. And his capacity to deliver the goods, no matter how impossible the request.

Spock. I was determined to find a way to break through to his emotional side. 😁
. As were many young women who had crushes on him. I was also drawn to Sulu. Years later when i learned Takei was gay i asked myself rhetorically "Why was i attracted to emotionally unavailable men?"
I also thought JJ Abrams was onto something in his ST reboot: If anyone could have gotten thru to Spock i think Uhuru could have.

Had crushes on both Spock and Sulu, but like @fuzzybuddy the group dynamic was the big draw. So glad they acknowledged later on that Kirk just KNEW he was wouldn't die if he,Spock & McCoy were together.

Can't remember who, think it may have been Roddenberry's wife Majel (Played Nurse Chapel) or Nichelle Nichols (Uhuru) but someone said that triad (Kirk/Spock/McCoy) were like 3 main aspects of Gene's personality.

I watched original Trek with my Mom, the later incarnations with my kids and even wrote a sociology paper in the early 90s about the cultural influences of it.

My daughter and i often cite the 'Scotty Principle' when someone pressuring someone to get something done quick: Always overestimate how long it will take, then when you finish sooner they think you pulled off a miracle just for them.

The “Big Three” of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy and their interactions was at the heart of the show. In addition to those others already mentioned, Sulu (George Takei) deserves a lot of credit too as the first Asian American to land a part on a major series. I follow him on Twitter!
I follow Takei too, but in FB and get an e-newsletter too.

When i was researching the Paper i did on the impact ST had on our culture i came acoss a story that really endeared the actor to me. At one of the early conventions, he went out to eat with a family of fans he'd befriended. Maybe 8 -10 people, including a teen with Down Syndrome. The young man was clearly involved in the conversation yet the waitress ignored him when taking orders and asked the adult nearest him what to bring him. Takei said something to the effect of "I've been talking with these people and I can assure you the young man is quite capable of placing his own order." She turned to the boy and he rattled off what he wanted.

Back then people were just beginning to realize how many erroneous assumptions were made about people with all kinds of disabilities. That Takei was aware and spoke up impressed me.

Just rewatched all the original Star Treks plus the Next Generation. Am very iffy on Deep Space Nine (which I hadn't seen before) and am working my way through the movies.

When I was young I loved Spock. This time through Kirk was my favorite. Seeing it through more mature eyes I found him marvelously camp and surprisingly flirty. A captain with a sense of humor - whoda thunk it?

Love the rest of the original series cast with the exception of McCoy - he got on my nerves when I was a kid and again this time around.

LIke @Nathan I'm going to say Lt. Uhura. Yes she was beautiful but she also represented one of the first Black female characters not shown as a servant but someone with power. I also loved Capt. Kirk (thought he was quite cute). They all played their parts so well, it's hard to choose. I liked the ever rational Spock too.

When i read her book and learned of her famous encounter with MLK, Jr. where he told her she 'must' stay with the show because she was role model for little Black girls, i understood his point--TV was just beginning challenge stereotypes--but my first thought was--"She is a role model for ALL little girls. Few people could convey as much class and dignity as she did in spite of the mini-skirted uniform."
