Why Can't Men Wear Dresses?

Okay, so a thought after reading the Towel Thread. (New Towel Skirt fashion for men...)

Seeing a man in a dress is.... jarring. I'll say, for me, but I think for others too.

I want to ask - what is so bad about a man wearing a dress? It raises eyebrows, it sparks concerns and scorn. But really, does it really matter? And why does it matter?

Why can't a man wear a dress and be as accepted as if he were wearing pants?

..because it's downright ugly,,

I hear you - but why is it "sick"? It's clothing. It's clothing without a few stitches. Women wear dresses AND pants. Why can't mean wear both?
I understand you..I've actually thought this myself in the past. We as woman campaigned to be able to wear trousers.. so why can't men get to be accepted in dresses.. it's a fair question... but I still think it's ugly..

Those are nice dresses, especially the first and second. :D

I'm truly curious, why is it ugly? Don't ugly women wear dresses?
No they look ugly in the dresses.. not that the dresses are ugly or the guys.. but the combination of the 2 is ugly....that's why panto dames are always men in dresses.. the Dames are meant to be ugly... so they put men in the role wearing dresses..because it's ugly

A man can wear a dress, just like women can wear pants. Personal choice, none of my business to judge.

I don’t think you are asking your real question. Of course men can and do wear dresses.

Your question is why can’t men wear dresses and not be judged for it.

You don’t control the opinion of others. Some won’t judge, some will think you’re ugly, among other things.

Fair. Of course, one can wear anything they please. You're correct, my question was really, "why would others judge your negatively for it".

Perhaps if like with women and trousers... if men has dresses made to suit their relative shapes.. as we women do with trousers, pants.. jeans etc.. then they might look a lot different in a dress.. look at the Arabian men.. they all wear ''dresses'' and they look perfectly fine, and men who wear kilts look no less masculine.. .. but men wearing low cut dresses which are patently designed for a female form is Ugly..

Men have been wearing skirts / kilts and various types of dress throughout history.
I don’t personally care what they wear. It’s their body to dress however they like. It’s not my business.

I don't think the Scots consider a Kilt to be a skirt. Could be wrong.

It isn’t whether anyone should or should not make a judgment. We have to live with reality and some people will. The next question is do you care? If not there’s no problem.

I think the line can be crossed when they are not just wearing dresses but what to be identified as female. This isn't cute guys in bands wearing eye makeup.

And now I'm supposed to be identified as cis. I can think of a few ways I identify myself and some of them may not be nice but that isn't ever going to be one of them.

i haven't had a dress on since 1993? can't say i miss them and i would be an atrocious sight stomping down the street the way i walk at work. lol!
