Why Kill This Lion?!

Not too many years ago, I received a radio call that someone was shooting their guns in posted areas and on private property. (No game was in season, but farmers are permitted to kill certain animals to protect their crops, but we needed to investigate this situation.) I was one of two Troopers that responded. We parked together at a location near to where the last shots were heard and began to walk the area with weapons in hand.

The other Trooper found a dead cat that was a fairly fresh kill, then another cat. A little while later, I found a dog, which turned out to be a Blue Heeler. (I had no idea what the breed was at the time.)

We kept walking and heard another shot, which was very close. When we got near the location, we came upon two boys, both 16, carrying .22 rifles with scopes. They quickly admitted to killing the animals, which were not on either boy’s property. We took them into custody and contacted their parents.

When we asked them “Why?” Their answer was that they were just doing it for fun. You can guess what happened from there.

Crazy what kids and a lot of grown ups do in the name of fun.
 
Not to change the subject, but do any of you remember the two young men who shot/killed a guy that was jogging. When asked "why did you do it?", their answer was "we just wanted to know what it would be like to kill someone."

Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable!

Well, from what I know, when a hunter kills an elk, deer, rabbit or other game meat, the meat is eaten and then either the head or entire body is mounted. I have no idea what Big Game (as in lions, tigers or whatever) hunters do with the meat, but have seen mounts of Big Game. Fowl hunting is the same way, eat the bird and then have it stuffed for a mount. Fish, fresh or salt, are no long stuffed. A plastic replica of the fish is done and painted. At least that's what I understand.

As far as this lion went, it was tranquilized, but that didn't work. I seriously doubt the zoo employees are going to stand and watch a lion eat a human that it just killed, let alone what would the family think. The family would want their loved ones body, but if the lion eats it...………

IOW, some things just have to be done.
 
Zoos and Aquariums should all be closed down, imo. All they are is prisons for animals who haven't committed a crime.
Its terrible what killer whales go through and they also at times kill their trainers.
 
I've been to Africa to see lions in the wild. Na na, na na nah.

Who needs a Ferrari?
We went on a walking safari at Sweetwaters in Kenya; just Hubby and I outside the protective perimeter of the resort area, and was very glad of our guide who was a little old man with a very big gun. Just in case.

Nobody fed those lions. They fed themselves.
