Thanks to all for the helpful advice. I recently downsized to a smaller apartment, and decided to do away with my clunky desktop (Windows 7) and finally to break down and get a laptop. It has Windows 8.1 on it. I was totally unprepared for how "foreign" it would be, compared to 7. I'm ordering one of those "dummies" books, hopefully to help me decipher it. I will also look at Classic Shell. It may be just what I need. I'd love to get my old desktop screen back!
