I had all of mine extracted surgically when I was in my 20's. The dentist told me "I'd better do it soon or I'd have problems." I didn't believe him, thought the whole thing was a racket, and mine weren't bothering me at all. But I went ahead and did it since I was in between jobs and had some time. WOW, they looked like gnarled tree branches!!! I was glad I did it, decided it wasn't a racket after all. If I had left them there, the roots would have kept on growing and probably caused nerve pain and numbness.
I had a lot of pain after the surgery, took lots of painkillers and ate soft food. My face swelled up and turned purple and yellow. But that was it. It felt fine after a few weeks.
I had a tooth pulled in my 50's. It left a cavity that food got caught in. Very annoying, but it actually healed up pretty quickly. I take a lot of vitamins, so maybe that helped.
