Woman shaving her legs at hotel pool sparks outrage.

Interesting. So you contend that it is possible to gain weight without eating too much. Hmm. Very, very interesting.

Allow me to ask one simple question. Have you even seen any photos of the P.O.W.'s from a WW2 Japanese prison camp ? Did you ever see EVEN ONE OF THEM who was fat ? No, of course not.

Calories in, minus calories expended, equals a persons weight.

The laws of the physical universe do not alter merely because of political correctness.

If given total control of any obese person on Earth, I can bring them to a condition of complete fitness. Now, naturally, a 920 lb. person would take a bit of time. But it can be done.

Metabolism is affected by many things. Have you heard of people gaining weight rapidly because of an undiagnosed under active thyroid? There are endocrine disorders also. Some people can eat anything they want and never gain an ounce, others cannot. As for the Japanese prison camp analogy, at some point, a starving body shuts down. This has nothing to do with the

subject at hand. Your calories in and out statement only works in a body which is capable of processing food properly. On the other end of the scale, there are individuals who appear gaunt no matter how well they eat. We are not all the same. In this

thread, political correctness is an odd label to attach to simple compassion. There is a stark difference between saying it is healthy to be obese and castigating people for it. Since when are courtesy and compassion political weapons?

Sadly, fat shaming remains the only “respectable” prejudice. When will we mature enough as a species to replace judgement with compassion? Almost everyone you meet lives with some sort of internal pain. What does it cost to be kind?
It is so disrespectful, can't see why some can't be compassionate.

Good idea. And, at the same time, maybe we each can eat a gallon of chocolate ice cream topped with hot fudge and whipped cream then wonder why we're gaining weight.
Ha Ha.:bigwink:

Don't forget the walnuts! Second choice: pecans.

Sorry to pop your bubble, but weight is gained when a person eats in excess of the calories expended. PERIOD !

Of course, if you can show me evidence where a person gained weight by NOT eating, or drinking anything except water, then I'll retract what I said.

Only on Planet P.C. do the laws of the physical universe cease to exist.

Monsieur, my reality does not require acceptance from others. I have no need to convince you of anything, nor do I require a retraction. In a healthy debate, courtesy rules, but I have weathered far more contempt than this. Enjoy your day. PS Given what I do for a living, the bubble analogy is priceless. Thanks for the giggle, I needed it.

On the subject of the woman that was shaving her legs :grin:in the pool ...well sitting on the edge of the pool ...
Be careful what you do in public :)cause the clip.made it all the way to the morning show on Aussie TV

I'd like to publicly apologize to the SF members and all the obese people the world over for my 'wisecracks' in this thread......I've turned over a new leaf and my new life's motto from here on out is, "No More Fat Cracks !".

My argument , is not a matter of making fat cracks, as it is about people who deny that eating too much will make us FAT. How those people can arrive at such an irrational opinion is mind boggling. The more they insist on such, the more I'm convinced that conservative, rational thinking, is the only hope for the world.

My goal, on this or any other topic, is NOT to change minds, but rather to give voice to a much suppressed way of thinking.

2+2 will always equal 4, no matter how much some wish it to be 3.

Civilization advances through rational thinking, NOT by magic, mumbo-jumbo or belief in what we may wish to be true.

I am reminded about a conversation I once had with a late stage alcoholic. I practically begged him to stop drunk driving. His retort ? "Hey, I've been doing it for 30 years without an accident. So, get off my back". He had to learn the hard way. When he finally killed himself in a drunk driving "accident" he took 2 little kids and a mother with him. All because of irrational thinking.

That is so not cool. She could cut herself and bleed into the pool, plus who wants the little hairs getting in their mouth when diving in the pool.

:eeew:
