Hmmmm....I always found that women were fifty fifty in their likes for men who were clean shaven or bearded, so, for a very short while, I experimented by just shaving one side of my face, thus being clean shaven on one side, and a 'Ben Gunn' beard on the other side. I never managed any dates, but generally, the ladies laughed when they approached me.

It doesn't look clean if it's overgrown. A neat short beard looks good on almost every man, unless it's splotchy and has uneven growth. I would not find the beard below appealing at all.

Fear of fleas, tick vermin, snakes, old fool particles-okay understood.

Beards require a lot of upkeep, especially the upkeep, rubbing face with lotion for those of us that have dry skin. I grow one every decade; shaving is druggy...

(Went to Goodwill Store, they have 'Spousal Equivalent' grannies parked out front in their wheelchairs with signs around their necks: "old but sexy, "don't be fooled by wheelchair, just as spry as I was 40 years ago." and so forth.

What? Why then is there a need for a brossiere? Or is that a manssiere? No need to get sexist, Jer. We start out like babies then end up that way too it seems. IOW, looking the same. Heaven forbid.

I like them! But not too long and kept well-trimmed unless it's deer hunting season when anything goes.
