Would you sleep with your door unlocked at night.

I always lock my doors, always have.

 Why would anyone want to leave their doors unlocked at night? What is the purpose of that?

My doors are always locked. But even if I had to leave them unlocked at night for some reason, there would be no point in me going to bed because I wouldn't sleep a wink with my doors unlocked.

Growing up on the farm, I don't think we even had locks! Now I live in a rural area and seldom lock the doors. Altho'... My pesky neighbor will just walk in unannounced which is annoying.

I find it sad that people have to live like this. Our doors are only locked at night - and sometimes we forget. The front door is rarely used here and the back door is always open if we're at home or in the garden. In the time I've lived here there has only been one alleged burglary, and that turned out to be an insurance scam.

Sad?

Why be a possible burglary or worse statistic for an extra second it takes to lock up.

Reminder:

There are many other reasons aside from crime prevention for locking your doors.

A couple people apparently don't realize that most people prefer privacy when they're sleeping, taking a shower, using the toilet, dressing/undressing, having sex, sitting at the dinner table, involved in a private conversation, sitting around in their bathrobe and no underwear, etc.

Maybe some countries think it's okay to just walk in on people with no regard for their privacy, but fortunately here in the US our society doesn't encourage such intrusions.

I keep my door locked all day and night. I don't even answer the door if someone knocks. If family or friends are coming over they call me before they come over. I don't feel safe in todays world.

Me, too. It's just crazy to leave your doors unlocked -- at least around here it is. I don't open my door to anyone I don't know, and friends know to call me before they come over. Almost everyone in my neighborhood is the same way.

I lock the cabins and shop at night

Gives me time to put a bead on ‘em

And lock everything when gone
Jus’ to slow ‘em down a bit
…and to piss me off enough to go after ‘em, once I get home and see the damage

Haven’t had to do that in the four years we’ve lived at the cabin
Might be due to my greeting expression

Maybe just luck

Their luck will run out if I have anything to do about it

I like to do my part in saving tax payer dollars on unneeded authorities comin' out

I don't think leaving doors unlocked is safe anywhere in the US anymore. And in my current unfortunate position, I'm staying at a low rent motel, which is frequented by meth heads fresh out of jail. Not long ago some lunatic threatened me with a knife, while in a drug induced psychosis. So I'll have to say no, my door stays as locked as locked can get. I have no firearms here, so the deadbolt and 911 are really my only defense. Well I do have meat mallet, and I may need to use it soon, to tenderize an intruder. This place is a dump and getting worse by the hour.

I thought for sure everyone would sleep more peaceably if their doors were locked, (given). What about the country, if it has a open border, depending on the location you are in. mark55 in texas.

I always lock my apartment door. In the past, some confused person has tried to open my door. Maybe the person was drunk, or maybe they were trying to visit someone they hadn't seen before. Either way, I prefer to control my own environment. I haven't invited anyone over for many years. Most of the time, I feel just fine chatting with people in the "common areas" of the building.
