You are God!

Shock, horror, God has decided that it is time to retire as the strain of being in the post is getting too much for such a very senior citizen. You have found the God mantle has fallen on your shoulders, so how would you deal with it?

If I were to find myself in that position, I think for the first time in my life instead of my very small nightly whisky, I might consume a whole bottle and get very drunk, which would be a new experience for me! Once the dreadful hangover had cleared, a few Millennia later,:D my first task would be to do a meet and greet of all earthlings, so they would be in no doubt whatsoever that I existed. They would also be taken on a virtual tour of the afterlife, which would consist of a heavenly idyll crafted to suit all reasonable human desires. They would also view the alternative, the 'sin bin'. I would then explain how I proposed to go about the God task. I wouldn't want any worship as that would make me very uncomfortable. I would tell them that I would be in the role of a sort of forum Admin to whom they could appeal if there was a problem, and I would help them see a way through it. On death I would make a judgement. Those deemed to have had good enough lives would immediately be waved through the heavenly doors. However, anyone who behaved so very badly would be given timeout in the 'sin bin' to reflect on their crimes. Unlike the hell so beloved by more extreme Christians mine would have a time limit. The miscreant would be deemed to have served their time once they had seen the error of their ways, even if that took thousands of years. My sin bin would have a fire, but rather than roasting sinners, it would be used to cook food for the starving on earth. Each citizen of earth would be fitted with a communication apps built into their brain so getting in touch with me would be only a thought away. No doubt I would have to refine my role as time went on, but I think that would do for starters.

How would you go about it?

Christians and Catholics believe that babies are born with "original" sin, they desire to sin and do evil because of Adam and Eve. From what I understand (and I was baptized Catholic), is that if babies aren't baptized, they would go to "Limbo", which I think is a nicer way of saying hell for babies. So many people wanted to have their babies baptized as soon as possible, in case the baby died, he wouldn't go to Limbo.

The 'sin bin' always existed as Purgatory, which most sinners went to repent for their sins. Only those who committed mortal sins, like murder, went to hell...unless of course they said an Act of Contrition on their death beds, then they would be saved from the 'fires' of hell.

If I was God, I would just cut the BS, and ban all organized churches and religions, they create most wars, suffering and greed. I'd just let people know who I was, and tell them to treat others as they would like to be treated, and follow their hearts and conscience...with no threats of hell if they didn't. I'd make it clear that just doing so, would be reward in itself. I'd also take everything backward to a simpler time, when we didn't have all this technology, toxic chemicals, etc.

It's my understanding that limbo (aside from the dance, of course) is neither Hell nor Heaven nor Earth - it is an "in-between place", sort of like a metaphysical waiting room.

The Catholic Church never included limbo as an official doctrinal teaching, and pretty much closed the door on it, I think sometime around 2005 or so. Of course, that doesn't stop the church from teaching it to keep people, especially kids, in line.

And yes, we are all supposedly born with "original sin" - it's just that some of us make it a practice to use it until it can be considered "second-hand sin".

Modern theology has moved forward a long way since the Middle Ages but many people have not kept pace.

"Original sin" is a metaphor for the duality of human nature. We carry within us, as part of our inherent nature, the seeds of good and evil. Babies may not have committed any sins but it isn't too long before they too are attracted by the dark side of human nature.

It isn't only Judeo-Christian literature that acknowledges this duality. The Ancient Greeks were writing about it long before the time of Jesus. They explained it as a clash between the Titans and the God Zeus. The Titans were brutish giants and they killed and dismembered Dionysius, the son of Zeus and a mortal mother. Zeus in a rage killed the Titans with a thunderbolt and cremated them. From the smoke humans emerged. The Greeks held that the human body has characteristics of the Titans (titanic) while the soul is divine after the God Dionysius. (Who coincidentally is also know as Bacchus, the God of Wine.)

I would kill off every human being on this earth, destroy every man made structure and then sit back and watch nature take back what was destroyed by human beings. All animals and insects, fish, etc would survive. No humans. Anywhere.

That would be refreshing Kaya, watching the earth, rivers, trees, plants and animals flourish would be heavenly! :moon:

Original sin is a load of naughty words!

If I were God, I would have destroyed every living human being a long long time ago and just kept the earth for the flora and fauna.

He has much patience.

I agree with Agent Smith from The Matrix:

Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.

Being God, Unlike Mary Todd Lincoln, I would still spell my name with one "d"....however I would add an "o".
