You ever get lonely? I mean bone tired lonely. No one to talk to .

I was thinking something similar last night. In fact, I was going to write about it this morning. What’s the purpose of this existence I’m in right now? I serve no purpose. I’m incredibly lonely. I’m so afraid of ending up dependent, in a nursing home, being abused.

Just sitting outside the other day chatting with my neighbor felt so good, but those days are few and far between. I have an old neighbor who moved to senior apartments and I asked her if there are usually people just sitting around in the lobby chatting and she said no.

There is an active senior center near me, but get a bunch of old ladies together and they talk about their grandchildren which is a devastatingly difficult thing for me to hear.

I don’t know what the answer is, but I definitely know what you’re saying.

I rarely feel lonely but I do get bored.

I try to accept being alone as a natural phase of my life.

There’s a big difference between being alone, and feeling lonely. Being alone is physically being by yourself, whereas feeling lonely is an emotional state of feeling disconnected and/or isolated from others even when there are people around.

The loneliest I ever felt was all the years when I was living with my abusive ex.

Simply being around other folks won’t cure loneliness. The cure requires emotional/intellectual engagement with one or more people.

Considering the growing number of older people, the fact that we're all stinkin' rich (LMAO), and so much retail and entertainment space going empty... why isn't there a successful "Geezerplex" franchise with locations popping up all over?

I could see cafes, small lecture/presentation rooms, small exhibitor halls for hobby club rental, fountains surrounded by seating, indoor gardens, walking track with a mid, slow, and slower lane, a space for kiosks peddling light goods and services (watches, reading glasses, hearing aids, cellphones, etc.)...

As we age, it gets harder to get out and our world often becomes too small. Try reaching out to others and keep your world open and alive. Don't depend on others to meet your needs when most of us are struggling to meet our own.
That’s a bit harsh. He’s not asking for anyone to meet his needs. Just someone to talk to. It’s human nature. Why do people feel the need to make others feel worse?

@friar … you will find this forum a great thing if you let yourself be entertained. Join in…share. Sometimes you need a bit of a thick skin to participate…there is interaction here and with interaction there runs the risk of conflicting opinions. Use those moments of blood rush to celebrate all our differences. Welcome…button down and take a ride.

I have found often I don't want to give what it takes to be a friend, have a friend.
So true with me now. I don't even care anymore........leave me alone. I'm good.😄👍

It's often the small things..like coming in from the garden and making a comment about the bird antics you might have witnessed..or having a moan about the neighbour...or even someone on the forum..... and that other peson knowing your mind set., and understanding..

My father-in-law lived to 96. Back when he and his wife were early 80’s she got a condition that took her out and he lived the rest alone. He did say what he missed the most was just the chance to talk about what he saw on his walk.
