You Ever Shop the Thrift Stores?

Another "thrift queen" here....used to be into thrifting big time years ago, still have "great finds" in my house from those bargain hunts, now I watch all the queens on their YouTube channels, they've made a big business out of it. One of my favorites was the Upscale resale shops....anyway, it was fun and I miss it.

When I had free time and a little extra $, I loved going to those places to look for books.
Occasionally found household items; the cup I usually use for coffee that's actually a tea cup came from a local thrift shop a few years ago.

Long ago, I was told- and it was accurate- that if you go to those places for books, and they're near colleges, the best time is after students go home for vacations. As many don't like to haul books home with them, they drop them at Salvation Armys, etc. It can be an absolute goldmine!!!

I don't need to buy anything, but I always seem to have items to donate.
We use the Salvation Army. My wife was a board member on the local branch for 10 years, so she felt it only right to donate to them. Believe it or not, she even was a bell ringer for 2 years. They weren’t getting enough volunteers, so she thought what the heck, maybe it will be fun.

Yeah, I used to crash at the Sallys, back in my train hopping days.
Beats the under the bridge hotels.
Had to listen to the AA sermon to eat, but, hey, a hot and a cot can be attractive at times

My ”thrift store“ for t-shirts used to be Menards home store where they offered Menards tshirts (and caps) free after rebate. Then I could redeem the rebate for more tshirts! Still have a bunch of shirts left even though they discontinued this offer about 3 years ago. They are all too beat up to wear out in public now, which my wife is happy about.

Love thrift stores! I go for the housewares and the linens. It’s so much fun for me to find some old beat up and discarded item and freshen it up or repurpose it for use in my own home.

Some of my finds…an old chandelier that turned into a standing lamp for our sofa table

A beat up watering can that became a plant pot, and that large box next to it with the wood in the front broken and no hinges at all. Ron repaired the wood, and I added new hinges and distressed the new wood and dabbed at the gold leaf pattern so everything blended.

An old trunk and a suitcase that became a decorative stand in our guest room. Added a beat up old tea tin and a lace and linen doily to make a nice display.

I used to buy most of my work shirts and jackets. My wife mostly would shop the clothing for the fabric. We haven't been able to do so for several years as the shops spray fabreeze on eveything. Fabreeze literally makes me physically ill.

A few years ago I bought banana split dishes for the kids when they were coming for a visit. Donated the dishes back when the kids were gone.

I donated several champagne glasses to a shop and said I‘d buy some back out of the shop if I ever won the big lottery. Since the lottery never happened, I won the extra space in my cupboard.

I used to shop thrift stores a lot. But living in an apartment building has taught that it is best to avoid buying second hand these days.
I won't buy upholstered furniture (bedbugs), but clothes and kitchen stuff can be washed and even sterilized.

I like secondhand stuff if it is something I need. I think it prevents a lot of things from going to landfills. I've found some bargains on eBay, too. Like a perfect condition Pendleton wool shirt. They sell for $169-$269. I got my perfect shirt, in colors I love, for $25. I wear it a lot in the winter.

I don't trust the clothing most of all. But bedding too.

No, but I have done my share of flea marketing. I used to find great buys on all sorts of things, both old and new, at the flea market. I don't want to be tempted, so the best thing to do is avoid going to just look. "Look" turns into "buy" in the blink of an eye, and the last thing I need is more "stuff". I could open my own thrift store. 🥴
