Your Car registration number?

When asked only about 4 or 5 of my friends know their Car Rego number (Number Plate) off the top of their head ....And You?

I'm not good with numbers (hideously poor, in fact). But my 15 year old car sports US bicentennial plates - I've repainted and varnished them and have a thick wad of stickers built up. If anyone is silly enough to steal it, it shouldn't be hard to find (-:

Mine's easy to remember. 5 numbers which my dad first had back in the early 30's. He had that plate up until he passed in '65. Our state allows plates to be passed down to immediate family (if they want them). I've had it ever since then and will pass it along in a few years when I no longer register a car.

That's pretty cool.

I started driving in 1970. For the longest time, Virginia issued new physical plates every year because they stamped the year on the metal plate, just as the tag# is stamped. At some point they went to a decal system for the Month and the Year of expiration. The older ones are collector's items here, for art display purposes only.

How were plates in your state back then reused from year-to-year? Did they not put the expiry date on them?
