Which do you prefer, texting, emailing or talking on your phone?

I must be " old school" because I like to talk to people on my phone. I don't have text but even if I did, I think I would still prefer to hear the person's voice that I am speaking to. My kids send me emails rather than calling. They know I don't have texting on my phone but if I did, that's what they would be doing. But, email or text would be better than nothing at all. I still like hearing the person's voice better. How about you? Which do you prefer?

Depends on the purpose/situation.

Text is ok to exchange brief, quick information which you want the other person to see right now. OR you can text "Call me".
Email for more lengthy communication or info which can wait until the other person decides to log in.
Phone is nice for a Happy Birthday or Just wanted to check in. Phone call should also be made if there has been a death, etc.

I REFUSE to text, email, or talk on phone if other person is driving.

I have a cell phone for emergency use only. I think texting is silly and use my house phone for talking. I use email frequently.

I dislike talking on the phone and only do it if I have to which isn’t often at all
Texting is great for short messages which I use the most
Emails are used for longer messages where more detail is needed.

It depends, really. My daughter calls me on her way home from work every afternoon, and I enjoy that. But when I need some quick information, like what size my granddaughter is, then I text. My neighbor friend and I text a few times a day, just to keep in touch. I use email a lot for contacting companies or to make a complaint or a compliment.

I use all three - for example - my brother (3 time zones away) and I usually text, but talk on phone maybe once every couple of months. My parents are in their 90s so phone only. I email from my phone for business actiities (like now when I'm selling my house). My son and his 2 sons and I use group texting for important stuff, like sharing pictures of new cars, commenting on the Buckeyes, etc. But my son and I talk on the phone once a week.

You know AZ Jim, what do you think you are doing now? You are texting and it's great. I doubt you would want to have to talk to everyone on the forum as a way of communicating.

I'm hard of hearing. Texting is a blessing. I don't have to keep saying 'pardon' or would you mind repeating that.

I'm in communication with my family who live in another country. We stay in touch by texting, sending pictures, etc.

It's great. But sometimes I tell them I just want to hear your voice. So I put the earphones on and turn the volume up on my computer or cell phone or tablet.

I have often thought though about what everyone on the forum sounds like. I will bet they would have a hard time understanding voices.

I can post on a forum at my leisure. No deadline, no obligation to post a immediate reply etc. There is a big difference between "texting" and using a forum.

Damn right

I go a bit nuts trying to poke those tiny keys on my phone.
Forums and such are forgivable when on my PC keyboard
I prefer emailing from my PC as opposed to phone text.
Love the big keyboard.
And familiar with posting pics and documents there.
Easy peasy

What baffles me to no end, is so many of my friends try to text me in the FB back chat.
Criminy, I’m on FB about once a month. Hate the place.

All in all, somebody needs an answer from me, they best be calling.

What I find annoying are people who call then hang up if my voicemail kicks in.
Why can't they just leave a message " This is XXX, gimme a call when you get a chance "?? Hey, I'm not taking my phone into the bathroom.

I have no smart phone, do not know how to text....wouldn't even if I did. Not crazy about talking on the 'real' phone.....but I do . If I know a person well? I'd rather sit here at this table and discuss ??? face-to-face.....course' adult beverages might be involved....:)

I do however enjoy this & the two other discussion forums I follow.

My first choice is to chat in person or on the telephone.

I'm warming up to email or FB chat because it allows me to study a post and gather my thoughts before I respond. It also prevents me or the person I'm chatting with from trying to talk over each other.

I don't text because it's just too clumsy and uncomfortable for me to compose a text quickly.

We don't have a line phone anymore, We use our cells for our main number, but I much rather talk then text or email. Least when we talk, I can tell by your voice if you like or dislike, or is surprised... But the younger ones now love to text...

Email for any business/commercial communication where having a record of the exchange could be useful. Phone or Skype for a friendly chat with family and friends who are far away (although email can work for that, too). Face to face for friends who are nearby. I agree with Gary that texting with fat fingers on tiny imaginary keys is an utter pain ... it's something that I seldom find useful.

I text more than anything else. Family, Ron, clients, kids, grandkids....it's my primary form of communication. I text back and forth all day long with my daughter, and with Ron. Because I'm working most of the day, this is a less intrusive way for folks to stay in touch with me. If I'm with a client I can respond when I'm free. I group text a lot of the time too, my daughter and son in law, Ron and his two girls, my sons and their GF's or spouses, whatever is most convenient in the moment, but typically for things that require a faster response than email or Messenger, which is another good way for me to group-message. I also use facebook's chat feature from time to time, and ALWAYS use chat if it's available for customer service issues, because then there's a physical, written record of the conversation.

I've learned to be able to text quickly. Not as quickly as I type (85 wpm with a 1% error rate) but still, must faster than the one finger method Ron employs. ;) And I also use talk-to-text as well, which is helpful in certain situations.

My 1st choice is talking on phone with family/friends since I still have my landline
I use email to communicate with friends/family,and for my 'volunteer church job'
I don't have a smartphone so I don't text,its tough to do with a flip phone

Sorry, Ronni, but this is funny

I prefer texting and emailing, use them both about equally. It's become practically the only way I have of communicating with my kids and grandkids.

But we do occasionally use the phone in the old-fashioned way, maybe for birthdays, or if we expect a long, complicated conversation. Most of my friends still prefer phone calls, so I do talk to them on the phone, but with the ones who are younger (or more "with it"), I prefer to text.

Why? Several reasons. Texting is less intrusive, doesn't interrupt people when they are busy, or sleeping, or driving, or whatever. They can answer when it's convenient. For the same reason, I prefer to get texts.
And the telemarketers and scam artists haven't exactly done wonders for using the phone; most of the time, we've learned to ignore it.

Also, by texting, we can reach several, or many, people at a time. My friends and I just arranged to go to a show together by communicating via email. It would have entailed a LOT of phone calls to do it the old-fashioned way. Some technological advances really are improvements.
