Are you Embarrassed about your Home Town?

I notice more and more people who have joined
here have no home, some don't even have a country
and I wonder why.

Where are you from?

@hollydolly I was 17 when I left my home town of Perth, Western Australia.

When I was in school back then, you could get on a fast track to graduation if you weren't planning to go on to University, and graduate High School at 16. Because of that, AND when my birthday fell, I graduated when I was 15.

I moved out shortly after I graduated...good relationship with my folks and all, it's just what you did back then when you were no longer at school, y'know? I spent a couple of years working full-time saving money for travel. Then took off...first stop Canberra, the capital city. Did some other traveling around the Eastern part of Australia, then headed to New Zealand, North Island, travelled around there, ended up in this little town called Whangarei, about 100 miles outside of Auckland. Left there in 1972 to head to California, where my sister had moved when she married an American.

Hadn't planned to stay but 6 months or so. I had my ticket paid on to England, and then planned to visit Spain and on from there. But....life's what happens while you're making other plans, y'know? šŸ˜‚
 
I love Chatham Ontario, think it was the right decision to finally settle here. This city is growing population wise, housing is affordable, all the stores are here, a great hospital, not far from the lake.

Many are relocating here from bigger cities. Known as Canada's best kept secret.
 
Born & raised in Cincinnati, lived there most my adult life, worked for the city 30 years. When my old neighborhood became so bad that I decided I needed to carry a gun just to walk up to the store, I decided it was time to move. This was in 2000, the year I retired.

Settled just east of Cincy, small village {Pop} 7500. Nice place, crime is next to nothing , when compared to Cincy.

Ashamed of Cincinnati?......I guess the honest answer is yes. It was a beautiful city, till the wrong people were allowed to take over......And that includes city government.

Back in the 50's - 60's the Pop was around 5-600 thousand, now down to just over 200 thousand.....some say closer to 300 thousand? The greater Cincinnati area is still listed at over 2 million , but the city itself has been shrinking since the early 70's.

Most [many], when asked, say they live in Cincy, even when they actually live "out" like myself, I do it myself sometimes, mostly because nobody has ever heard of Milford........ :rolleyes:
 
I am born&raised still living in hometown,Buffalo,NY
The only thing I'm embarrassed about are the 2 pathetic/boring pro sports teams ,NFL Buffalo Bills,NHL,Buffalo Sabres.Every year they disappoint their die hard fans{I gave up on them yrs ago} by not making the playoffs or lose in the 1st round,they hike the price of the tickets Who can afford to support these teams?.The Pegulia family which owns both,needs to sell one or the other
 
I was born and raised in a small town right about in the middle of NY state, Norwich, NY. A proud little town where folks shopped, in town, and would stop and talk to people on the street. 5 & 10 stores, factories, Main Street was just that...Main Street.

The factories have left, the big stores moved in, people are far and few between seen talking on Main Street unless itā€™s a drug deal. What a shame and waste.
 
Lived from the ages of 5 to 20 in Arlington, Virginia.

Certainly not embarrassed by Arlington. But I can't believe the way it has changed. It was a middle-class suburb of Washington. Now it is a very rich metro center/suburb. Houses sell for millions of dollars. Very few people from my HS class can afford to live there anymore.

Lived in NY area for a long time and then moved 10 years ago to Richmond, VA. Love it and am here to stay.
 
Born in raised in Phoenix. When I was born there were around 500.00 in the entire metro area. It had a nice hometown feel to it. Now the metro area is approaching 5 million. I'm keeping an eye out for a smaller town to move to but still proud of Phoenix..well except for the sports teams. They all are a mess except for the Coyotes.
 
I am from a very small town here in Pennsylvania that was named after a city in England. I'm not ashamed of it, but I don't want to reveal it on the internet.
