Fed up' liquor store owner shoots shoplifting suspect in the back

As a recovered alcoholic I might be inclined to judge a business that sells an addictive product that destroys people's lives and drives them to desperation. Unless the dead man was using deadly force against the store owner, this homicide is surely murder. A license to sell booze is not a licence to kill.

OK, I've looked at the video now. "I aimed at the floor and shot him in the back"????
Poor sweet old lady. She needs to be taken into protective custody to protect the public.

And that snippet of video showing someone hiding a bottle under his jacket - disgraceful news presentation to give the impression that it was a fit young man. The dead man's story should be told just as much as the shooter's.

They forgot to mention "STUPID."
Having a gun & "never firing it:" STUPID.
Thinking she could use deadly force over shoplifting: STUPID
Shooting someone when her life was not in danger & someone was running away: STUPID

I thought wisdom came with age.

I respectfully disagree. It is not about the value of the product stolen, it is about the fact that it was stolen in the first place. It is about sending the message that crime will not be tolerated.

It depends on the bullet's path, what it damages, the caliber, the velocity & the victim's general health & age.
You may recall President Reagan being shot in the lung. He didn't know he was shot until several minutes later when the lung started to collapse & cause shortness of breath. Factors in his survival were his health, his "toughness," & the small caliber of the bullet - 22.
 
Yeah, Fuzzy, you've got to start thinking correctly about this. I would go one step further: if a shop owner is having a bad day and is in a rotten mood, and an unlucky customer enters the shop at the wrong time, the shop owner absolutely has the right to blow the guy's brains out. Let it be a lesson to the next guy. He might have been thinking about shoplifting.

Down with thin-skinned liberalism! That's what's wrong with the world today, too much concern about the next guy's right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Every shop owner (why stop there? every shop clerk) should be armed to the teeth!

She never shot a gun and apparently didn't know about the "kick" which poobably raised her aim high enough to hit him in the back. It does say he is recovering.
 
Shooting a thief in the act of stealing a bottle , yes some would say drastic. When fighting to keep your business alive etc, dealing with constant thefts, a huge point towards her. She was trying to protect her business. When protecting what is yours where do you draw the line?
Using a gun, not very smart, using a gun without ever having fired one....crazy dangerous. On this I agree with rgp,something needed to be done.
