Writing Christmas Cards

When writing your christmas cards do you just sign it 'love or best wishes from'... or do you write a message as well ?

I tend to think the verse or words printed in the card says it all, maybe I'm just lazy ! 😄

Depends on who it is going to. I write notes to certain people I have not talked to awhile. Some, I used to send pictures enclosed in the card too. I don't send out more than a couple now but I leave cards for all the people in my building since everyone does that now. I just sign those.

"Love", "best wishes", "seasons greetings", whatever comes to mind is what I write in.

The card itself usually says all that I wish to speak.

I'm not half the card person I used to be. For years I dedicatedly sent out large numbers of Christmas cards, and found year after year the number of cards I was receiving didn't match the number I was sending out, and while that doesn't go to say that I expect balance when it comes to giving and receiving, just that for the effort, the time, as well as the expense, I put a halt to card shopping.

Now, I have only a select close few that I give and send cards to.

I used to send out over a hundred Xmas cards. Some were to people I hadn't seen in 30 years., Then came E-cards. So I stopped sending actual cards. Somehow the E-cards just didn't make it, and it was becoming expensive to send a card to the people, who used to live next to me in 1978. I got out of the habit of sending Xmas cards.

Darned rights it's expensive, and time consuming, too.

With the exception of my daughters, I buy all my Christmas cards in the January Sales, they are really nice and a fraction of the original price

I not only do a bit of pertinent writing, but make my own cards

Not hard to do
Choose a photo, or photoshopped pic (usually it's a pic of me, or me and my lady)
Take it over to Staples (or some place like Staples)
Have them print out the pic on half a page of thick paper with a matte finish
Fold the paper
Write something inside
Short, sweet, funny...all works
I only do a half dozen of these, and all recipients never fail to email their appreciation

Love the sweet puppy dog peeking out from under the sofa!

I've been sending out Christmas cards for as long as I can remember. Usually between 40-50 cards each year. Not this year! I'm tired of sending cards each and every year. I also wrote a personal message. I also buy the cards during the after Christmas sales; in fact I have 3 boxes that I'm going to donate to Goodwill. lol

Wife and I used to allot one Sat. in early Dec. for cards. It was an 8-hr. job. I reputedly had a "bee-yoo-ti-ful" handwriting -- no longer though -- and therefore addressed the envelopes and signed our names. On most, I added "Love" but on others just our first names. She picked out the cards and decided who gets what. We were like a machine yet it still took all day.

For a few cards, she wanted to write little notes in her chicken-scratch handwriting and include them in the envelope. She did this during the next week after the rest were mailed.

Today I get about five cards a year but send one only to my brother and his wife. It's physically painful to write and my penmanship embarrassing.

We bought some "Colorado" type Christmas cards from a large sporting goods store here. The cards show Santa feeding wildlife, like elk and white-tail deer. We enclosed a picture of us, wearing our new black felt cowboy hats, we got last Christmas, in front of our Christmas tree.

I've noticed a tremendous drop in the number of cards and especially those holiday letters that people used to send out, probably due to Facebook and all the other internet platforms available to us throughout the year. If you've been writing stuff, and posting pictures, of yourself and your family all year, it seems kind of redundant to send out a letter with the same stuff. And it's a lot of trouble to put together.

My own card sending has narrowed down to people who send them to me.

I don't send Christmas cards and I only send a half dozen cards during the year.

I write notes in the few cards that I send and I appreciate a short note in the few cards that I receive during the year.

FB messenger has replaced cards, notes, and telephone calls in my family.

I can't say that I like it but I accept it and I enjoy the thoughts that we share.

I usually write Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, but depending who it is, I may add a few more thoughts.
