Record-High 70% in U.S. Support Same-Sex Marriage

I happened to see this new blurb.

Record-High 70% in U.S. Support Same-Sex Marriage

We have same sex marriage, and Armageddon didn't materialize. I recall when the TV interrupted shows, "BREAKING NEWS- Supreme Court Okays Gay marriage". Now, nobody cares about it.

I've always been baffled that anyone ever cared about it in the first place. I don't care who my neighbor marries, I only want them to live on their own money.

I used to believe same-sex marriage was wrong..and my argument was always... if they married it should be called a partnership not marriage. I thought the word marriage should be strictly for male/female couples as I believed that was the best environment for raising children. A father and mother role model IMO was very important..perhaps because that is what I had? But times have changed and the divorce rate is through the roof so more acceptance and non-judgment is my goal now...

I agree. I know a gay couple who were together over 20 years before they were able to marry. I attended the wedding and it was great.
Some opponents use the "procreation" argument. Gay and lesbian couples can adopt. PLUS, what of people who marry later in life (like me and Rick) or who choose not to have children.
It all goes back to who does it hurt? Not me.

If they did not intervene, interracial couples could still be prevented from marrying, same applies with same sex marriages..
How do you figure? Legislation and politics have interfered with affairs of the heart far more than people have. I dare say people would think nothing of who married who if not for politics (and religion, but to each his own in that case, literally).

Supreme court decisions forbade states from marriage discrimination is all I'm pointing out.

Where did this 70% approval come from, San Francisco? Statistics can be skewed by selective polling to acquire the desired result. What were the results in the bible belt?

While I still can't get my mind around the idea, and I have seen what it has done to destroy one family ...... I agree with Murrmurr as long as they are doing it on their own money .......... I wish them happiness.

I'd say it's record high!

I can't help but think the numbers are skewed... terribly skewed.

I looked this up, and it does appear to be true for the U.S. , not just the San Francisco area. It even says that a small majority of Republicans now support gay marriage!

Of course, this could be misleading. "Support" does not necessarily mean approve of, or encourage, etc. The poll just asked about supporting the legality of gay marriage.

Usually, these Gallup polls are highly regarded, so I think it's probably valid.

From the article summary: “Gallup's trend illustrates that Americans' views can shift in a relatively short time span, creating a new consensus -- even as polarization on other measures intensifies.” This is a trend in a positive direction.

Procreation? Some people can't have children for medical reasons and some like me, don't want them because of my own childhood or other personal reasons.

It's the lamest excuse that they use.
