Ohio Teachers packing heat-- must have POTC

Good points. Now kids are using computers & special printers for manufacturing guns with no serial numbers on them. So they can't be traced. This is getting real bad, even 12 years old can do this. Most are single parents that are working several jobs & the kids are left alone most of the time. The kids join a gang to be wanted.

We do have a great system when you buy a gun here in my State. You have to fill out a form at gun shops or shows. They send it to the FBI for a background check. If you have any felonies, you do not get your gun. I've seen many people not get their guns at gun shows or stores.
I sold a gun one time but I had to take it to our Rural King so they could do a background check on the person I was selling it to.

Right now guns are for hunting & protection. Not far from me a widow 86 years old had some thugs break into her house to beat her up & rob her. She had a 12 gauge shotgun. Needless to say, she is still alive & the thugs are not. If she had not had the shotgun she would have been the one that was dead.
Nice reply. Jesus! I didn't know you could fabricate a gun on computer printers. Your state seems like its heart is in the right place ... and I know it's not funny but I can't get the vision of an 86-year-old woman cradling a 12 gauge shotgun over one arm and her other hand with her finger on the trigger!

EDIT: Wait a minute! I know who that old woman was! She used to live at 750 Bel Air Road in Beverly Hills!

The problem isn't really CNC printed guns. You still have to buy the barrel and other parts, and the guns often fall apart when they're fired. The "ghost" guns are more of a problem. Those are made from gun castings that need a bit of machining before they can be used, but that's the part of the gun that's supposed to have the serial numbers on them. Maybe the barrel should be required to have a serial number.

Last month our State had more guns bought by women than the whole year before. One good thing our sheriff here has classes for anyone wanting to go through for free. I've been through it to see what it was.

They teach you how to lock up a gun and only point a gun at an intruder or person going to do you harm if you intend to shoot them. They give you target practice, especially for women. They show the woman how to disarm a robber if then come up behind you. Also a lot more things. Each class is for 3 nights a week for 2 weeks.

They limit the size of the class to 16 people. The classes are twice a month. So women 18 & over here know how to handle a weapon.
I like the picture of Granny. I loved that show.

My semi auto pistols do have the serial number on the outside of the chamber as well as on the frame (where it's required).
But my revolvers only have the serial number on the frame.
Most autos have a separate barrel & replacements without a serial number can be sold & installed easily by the owner in a few seconds, so I doubt the serial number would be useful.
But most revolvers have permanent barrels & require special tools and knowledge to install a barrel.
One cop committed a murder, then replaced the barrel, knowing his gun would be confiscated & the rifling & tool marks wouldn't match.
It only worked for 2 years.

Not only teachers are packing but so is just about every Tom, Dick and Harry. Some armed drivers feel it's their right to use a gun over the slightest road infraction. No surprise for Texas and it looks like whoever draws a gun first may get lucky.

"Around 10:15 p.m., Friday, two cars were driving on Loop 12 near Highway 175 when one car cut off the other. Police say the driver who got cut off shot the other car and hit the passenger, a 20-year-old pregnant woman. Her boyfriend was driving and stopped to get help at a nearby Texaco gas station and the woman was taken to Baylor Hospital where she delivered the child."

"Around rush hour Friday in Fort Worth, police say an SUV driver shot a man riding a motorcycle in a road rage incident at 9800 North Freeway and Heritage Trace Parkway. The man shot is in critical condition."

"In the past three weeks, six people have been shot or killed in their cars after tempers flared on the roads."

..... Some armed drivers feel it's their right to use a gun over the slightest road infraction. .....
I can understand that. It's sort of required occupational equipment. I've also heard that some crooks and robbers feel it's their right to use a gun over the slightest infraction while carrying out their professional duties. Can't blame them.

My god, what happened over the years. I guess I would, in school today, have to trade in my squirt gun, marbles and yo-yo for a Saturday night special?
Our governor just passed a…okay to carry a concealed weapon in church now, here in Florida. I’m not against conceal carry, I have one, but when I go certain places, church, VA, banks, my gun stays in the car, as it should.

Years ago I attended a church service at my son's Anglican school in Sydney. They had a cadet unit at the school and the cadets came into the chapel in uniform, carrying their rifles. I was appalled at the symbolism of guns, even empty ones, being welcome in a house of worship. IMO there are some places where guns and other deadly weapons are unwelcome, schools being one of them. My home is another.

If you are black you might need it at the VA. They may start up the Tuskeegee Experiment again and you'll need to be prepared.

Around here churches get serial killers. Lucky a patron & the paster was carrying. They stopped his evil deed before he got started. same for a bank. A lot of bank robberies have been stopped by an armed person waiting to get service. Also gas stations or convenience stores.

When I go to an eating place I always get a table or booth where I can see the front door & cash register. Now at the age of 85, I still do it but not because when younger I stopped a robbery in an eating place I was carrying. A red dot on the perp sure makes them think twice.

I used to take an aggressive karate stance as soon as I entered a restaurant but now at 74 I just ask the waiters to duck into the kitchen to join the cooks so I can shoot the place up ..... just to be sure.

Simplest thing would be to lock all school building main entrances but, in the eyes of the state, that's violating older students' freedom to come and go as they please. I imagine teachers who are authorized to carry guns would be required to keep them in a safe of some sort, but the proposal did say "carry". Armed door guards would openly carry, so I really don't see a huge difference there regarding exposure.

Armed schools would be a deterrent. Kind of like when a burglar tries a door and finds it locked, he'd rather move on to the one that isn't.
There are plenty of unstable, cruel people who've got teaching credentials. I wouldn't send a child to a school where teachers are armed with lethal weapons.

That's a shame, and shame on those parents that made a fuss.
Walking children through metal detectors every day is not a solution. Perhaps we'd be better off having to walk through metal detectors as we leave our homes...

Dramatically reducing the number of weapons in private hands is the only way we will reach the other side of this. There is no other way out.

Regardless of knee-jerk reactions, I hope you understand that (probably a majority of) Americans are not obsessed with guns, but with maintaining their right to own them.
Not me. I'm obsessed with reducing the scope of the 2nd Amendment. Why in the world civilized humans would want or be permitted to walk around with lethal force, including military style assault weaponry, at their fingertips is beyond my understanding.

It's like cold war escalation. The more weapons one side haa, the more the other side needs to balance out the power.

It's long past time to have serious armament reductions in this country.

I'm with you, Star, and agree, but realistically I just don't ever see change in the way of reducing weapons (guns) in private hands, though for those like yourself I would love to see nothing more.

Do you really think that a metal detector would thwart someone hell bent on shooting up a school? He'd (and it's nearly always a male) would merely first target those at the metal detector.
Nothing is 100% foolproof, but in keeping with this topic, I was looking to cast whatever ideas I had, because the seemingly stagnant effort being made currently is definitely not attributing to a better life or environment.

Amend or repeal the 2nd. amendment. (y) 🌎

Absolutely, yes. How many shootings have you heard of on airplanes lately? Zero?
You ignored the second part of my post. The gunman would merely start off by shooting down the crowd waiting outside the metal detectors. Unlike airports with staggered arrival times, schools have one or two start times. Students will line up at the entrance waiting to go through the detectors, much as happens at a concert or sporting event entrance.

Build a ten foot fence and people who are determined to get over it will build an eleven foot ladder.

When it comes to mass shootings we cannot remove opportunity and it's nearly impossible to always identify motive (and motivated). What's left is to dramatically reduce the means.

I didn't ignore it. I deemed it irrelevant. I appreciate your congenial outlook on stopping violent crime but you are limiting your imagination and the ability to adapt .... for what purpose I cannot see.

1). Crowds waiting outside. What crowds are you talking about?
2). Two starting times vs. staggered arrival times. So? Introduce staggered arrival times if you think it's important.
3). Ten-foot fences and eleven-foot ladders. This comment is your biggest crime. It says, "There is nothing we can do!" 😭

BY THE WAY: You are moving the goal post. We are talking about schools and I gave you an excellent reply. Now you want to talk about parking lots as if it's the same thing. It's not.
