"Given a second chance after her arrest for prostitution Mae (Carole Lombard) decides to go straight and is soon befriended by kindly cab driver Jimmy Doyle (Pat O'Brien) who gets her work at a diner, where she meets Gert (Shirley Grey), another former prostitute."

Some great, and not so great, posters of yesteryear.
I used to love seeing stills from the movie (on display) while you were waiting in line outside the theater.

In 1977, my friend and I went to see Annie Hall. While we were in the lobby, on the wall, were stills from a movie I knew nothing about, called Star Wars. I thought it looked really interesting so the next night we went back to see it.

After seeing Annie Hall, I said that should win Best Picture...and it did. Then, after seeing Star Wars, I said that it should win Best Picture. Okay, so I was fickle back then.

I missed this thread entirely. It's fun for me to see poster art, some of it is awful, but I enjoy most of it.

i belong to a FB group named Pre-Code Movie and Actor's Group (1929-1934). I have learned a lot about the era before movie studios agreed to stick to certain moral codes. That's where I first saw the posters that I just posted. I thought someone might have started a post at some point about movie posters :).

"A clip from the beginning of the original film version of The Maltese Falcon. This film is a little different from the version with Bogey."

Maltese Falcon - 1931
I own the Bogart version but have never seen the earlier one.

What impresses me about the Bogart one is the amount of dialog. It feels like you've finished reading a novel by the end of the movie. All that dialog yet never boring. Provides a mentally stimulating experience. An amazing accomplishment for a movie.

"If you’re committing to a look as classic as Bogart’s, you’ll need dedication. He was never photographed looking sloppy."

"He even rode a bike in a suit. While you don’t have to go that far, we would suggest skipping distressed denim, joggers, sneakers or anything else that reads too casual.

I don't belong to FB, so I belong to a site called classicfilmtvradio where we talk about all the old stuff.
I love the pre-codes, one of my favorites is "Baby Face."
Watching Barbara Stanwyck sleep her way to the top of a big business, one floor manager at a time, is fascinating.

If you're a Bogie fan you've probably seen my favorite film of his, "Key Largo." The atmosphere, the acting and the writing all come together with a great moral lesson about true courage.
