A taxi driver is being hailed a hero after thwarting a Remembrance Day attack outside a London hospital.

The driver, identified as Dave Perry, jumped out of the cab and locked the doors as the vehicle exploded in front of Liverpool Women’s Hospital killing only the male passenger that carried the bomb. Mr Perry was in a stable condition in hospital with burns and shrapnel injuries, including damage to his ears.

Detectives have not yet declared the blast a terrorist attack, but three males were arrested within hours of the incident. The males, aged 29, 26 and 21, were arrested in Liverpool’s Kensington district under the anti-terrorism laws, Greater Manchester Police said in a tweet.

The man killed in the blast has not yet been identified, the statement said.

I thought we were done with these idiots.

I feel your anguish. The United Kingdom like a fair number of nation states with far left of center Liberal Immigration policies will always be the targets of rampant violence in the name of: Fill in the blank:____________________________________________

Sickening really.

Not London...... Liverpool

Three men have been arrested under the Terrorism Act after a man was killed in a car explosion outside Liverpool Women's Hospital.
Just before 11:00 GMT the car - said to be a taxi - pulled up and exploded shortly afterwards, police said.
The passenger of the vehicle was declared dead at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
The male driver was injured and is in hospital in a stable condition.
Detectives from Counter Terrorism Police North West said three men - aged 29, 26 and 21 - were detained in Sutcliffe Street in the Kensington area of the city.

The hero driver has been credited with saving many lives after locking an alleged suicide bomber inside his cab just moments before the vehicle blew up outside a hospital. The explosion turned David Perry's cab into a fireball outside the Liverpool Women's Hospital, seconds before the 11am minute's silence was due to take place yesterday. The explosion happens as the cab pulls up, then Mr Perry jumps out of the vehicle.

The shocking video makes the driver even braver, as he may have locked the doors to stop the suspect entering the hospital, even if it cost him his own life. The male passenger, who had asked to go to the city's Service of Remembrance at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral less than a mile away where 1,200 military personnel, veterans and families of the fallen had gathered, was the only person killed.

A friend of married father-of-two Mr Perry, 45, said that he believed that the cathedral was the target but traffic and road closures led to the passenger, who has not been formally identified, asking the driver to park at the nearby Liverpool Women's Hospital instead. By locking him in, David appears to have stopped the man targeting the hospital as the clock struck 11am. MI5 are said to be working with counter-terrorism police to confirm whether the Cathedral or the hospital was the true target and whether it was an Islamist attack.

I wonder how the driver knew the guy was a terrorist carrying a bomb. Did any of the news articles or programs say what tipped him off?
It would appear that in actual fact CCTV shows that the explosion had already happened within the cab as the driver made a dash for freedom...

A taxi carrying one passenger had exploded as it pulled up outside.

The male driver was injured but has since been discharged from hospital, and the passenger was declared dead at the scene.

The hospital was a short walk from the city’s cathedral, which was hosting a large Remembrance Sunday service attended by more than 2,000 people who were about to observe the traditional 11am silence.

Big screens had been set up in the grounds of the cathedral so people who were not able to get into the service could watch it outside. Local roads had also been closed for a parade linked to the event.

A video has emerged showing the taxi driving up to the front of Liverpool Women’s Hospital. It shows a blast going off inside the car, forcing it to stop, and white smoke then billowing from the windows.

The driver is shown opening the right-hand car door and running away before the vehicle bursts into flames.
Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North West, Russ Jackson, said on Monday that the taxi driver had picked up a passenger in Rutland Avenue, near Sefton Park, on Sunday.

He said: “The fare - a man - had asked to be taken to Liverpool Women’s Hospital, which was about 10 minutes away.

“As the taxi approached the drop-off point at the hospital an explosion occurred from within the car. This quickly engulfed it in flames.

“Remarkably the taxi driver escaped from the cab.”

Assistant Chief Constable, Russ Jackson, said that the taxi passenger appeared to have made an “improvised explosive device” which caused the blast.

He said that police knew the identity of the attacker but would not confirm any details. The police are still trying to ascertain the motivation for the attack.

Four men— aged 29, 26, 21, and 20 — have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Three of the arrests took place in Sutcliffe Street, in Kensington, Liverpool, where witnesses saw armed officers approach a terraced house only a few hours after the hospital blast.

Properties on Rutland Avenue near Sefton Park were raided by armed officers. The first raid, at around 1pm on Sunday, happened on Rutland Avenue.

The second happened around Sutcliffe Street and Boaler Street at about 2pm.

Police said that they had found “significant items” at a property on Rutland Avenue.

The explosion has been declared a terror incident by the police.

The Mayor of Liverpool has praised the “heroic” taxi driver for his efforts to reduce the impact of the explosion.

It was reported that the driver, named locally as David Perry, locked the passenger in the vehicle to contain the incident — although subsequent CCTV shows the blast had already happened as the vehicle drew to a halt.

Emad Al Swealmeen - who went by the name Enzo Almeni.

Almeni is a Syrian asylum seeker who converted to Christianity and was once arrested for carrying a knife. The motor racing enthusiast is said to have changed his first name to Enzo after Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari. He made the name change to sound less Muslim and appear more Western, in the hope that it would help his asylum application.

It’s understood he arrived in the UK several years ago and was being supported by Christian volunteers from a network of churches who help asylum seekers. He spent a large part of his life in Iraq, where his mother originated from.

I have often have thought about reading the Koran but can't bring myself to even start. I read Mein Kampf and that was enough. Tough to believe some people live out their lives believing their sole purpose is to destroy other people in the name of God or human destiny

A Christian couple who opened their home to the Liverpool suicide bomber for eight months after he converted from Islam told of their shock last night after learning he launched a suicide bomb attack at the city's Women's Hospital.

Enzo Almeni, 32, was killed after a homemade ball-bearing device exploded inside a taxi he rode to Liverpool Women's Hospital just seconds before the 11am minute's silence.

Almeni, a failed asylum seeker with Syrian and Iraqi heritage who changed his name by deed poll from Emad Jamil Al Swealmeen to sound more Western, fled the Middle East several years ago and converted from Islam to Christianity in 2017 at the cathedral it is believed he wanted to attack.

He spent most of his time in the UK in Liverpool, and spent eight months living with devout Christians Malcolm and Elizabeth Hitchcott at their home in Aigburth.

Born in Iraq and brought up in Syria, Al Swealmeen, 32, came to Britain seven years ago. He had a history of mental health problems, and was once sectioned for brandishing a knife near Liverpool's city centre, friends said.

He relinquished his Muslim faith and converted to Christianity soon after arriving in the UK, having attended Bible classes and services at Liverpool's imposing Anglican Cathedral. The site was originally thought to have been the target of his failed Remembrance Day plot.

In May 2017 Al Swealmeen changed his by deed poll to make it easier to pronounce. In tribute to Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari, the car-mad asylum seeker became Enzo Almeni. Pictures online show trips to a go-kart track – and a chequered flag tattooed on his arm.

The son of an Iraqi mother and Syrian father, he arrived in the UK in early 2014. His first application to the Home Office for asylum was turned down that November. He was arrested soon afterwards, lay pastor and friend Malcolm Hitchcott said, for possession of a 'large knife'.

Al Swealmeen had regularly attended 'instruction' workshops and Bible study courses led by Mr Hitchcott at the cathedral. It was there that he was confirmed into Christianity in a ceremony attended by Mr Hitchcott and his wife, Elizabeth, on March 27, 2017. Days later the devout couple, both 77, offered to put up the then-destitute Al Swealmeen in their home rent-free as he had nowhere else to live.

Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North West, said the passenger appeared to have made an improvised device that caused the explosion.

Mr Jackson said he could not confirm reports the driver had locked the doors of the taxi before the explosion. While he had spoken to the driver, at the time he was still shaken and injured, and police have not yet got a full account of the incident, he added.

Mr Perry's (taxi driver) wife Rachel, pointed out that the reports that her husband locked the doors was NOT the case.

Dramatic CCTV footage from the blast showed the car was still moving when it blew up outside the main reception of the maternity hospital. He could not have locked the doors, because if he had and it was central locking he would have been locked in himself!

The Liverpool suicide attacker built a 'Mother of Satan' ball bearing bomb used by ISIS extremists to 'cause maximum carnage' and may have been driven to take revenge after his asylum bids kept being turned down, it was claimed today.

Enzo Almeni, 32, a Muslim who converted to Christianity four years ago, was killed after the homemade device exploded as his taxi pulled up at Liverpool Women's Hospital just before before the 11am minute's silence on Remembrance Sunday.

His bomb was made using home made TATP explosives. TATP is unstable and known as a 'Mother of Satan' because it is liable to blow up accidentally. It was used by Islamist terrorist in the Paris suicide attacks of 2015, the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017 and the failed Parsons Green Underground station.

The asylum seeker's heritage was disputed by UK immigration officials, having arrived in Britain claiming to be of Syrian and Iraqi heritage, when the Home Office reportedly believed he was from Jordan.

A security source told The Sun: 'One of the issues being looked at is whether this unresolved grievance pushed him over the edge and prompted him to carry out the attack.'

It is not yet known when he arrived in the UK but he first became known to the authorities after being arrested for possession of a 'large knife' after the rejection of his asylum claim in 2014, resulting in him being sectioned under the Mental Health Act and hospitalised for several months.

Ever since then it is claimed he had been in a long-term dispute with the Home Office over his application for UK residential status, and until recently had been living at a hostel for asylum seekers - run by private contracting giant Serco - in Sutcliffe Street, Liverpool, 'for some time' before renting a flat two miles away in Rutland Avenue, which he turned into a bomb factory.

His driver David Perry, 45, survived in a 'miracle' after Almeni's 1lb bomb failed to properly detonate, with the hero cabbie said to have started 'vibrating' and 'flashing' in the seconds before they reached their destination.

Police and MI5 are trying to work out if Liverpool's main maternity hospital, which was packed with mothers and new babies, was his intended target. ISIS attacked the maternity ward of Dasht-e-Barchi hospital in Kabul, killing 24 including 16 mothers and two children in 2020.

  • Enzo Almeni, 32, a Muslim who converted to Christianity four years ago, repeatedly turned down for permanent residency because the authorities weren't convinced by his claims he came from Syria;
  • He arrived in the UK before 2014 and was arrested and sectioned after being caught carrying a 'large knife' around Liverpool;
  • After living with a family on Merseyside and converting from Islam to Christianity, he moved into a hostel for asylum seekers where he lived for the past three years. Recently he rented a flat, which he turned into a bomb factory;
  • He booked a taxi to take him to the Liverpool Women's Hospital at around 10.45am. His bomb, made from unstable TATP used by ISIS, explodes as he pulls up at 10.57am on Sunday;
  • Police and MI5 are trying to find his motive - but sources believe it was his dispute after claiming asylum that may have motivated him;
