News, Hot sauce, tampon shortages lead growing list of out-of-stock items.

Our financial security is in the hands of the wealthy, and they are gleaning every fraction of a penny they can. Inflation and shortages make it a hot hunting ground for these gold misers. I have this strong feeling that we are in for some big life style changes. Nobody wants their standard of living disrupted, but THAT IS what is happening. As so much is in flux it seems there is no stopping this downward trend. The only thing I keep in mind, is to simplify our life as much as possible.

There are many products that I used to buy that just don't exist anymore.
And there used to be variety of choices in some things - now its only ONE - take it or leave it.

I did see some baby formula of different brands, on encased shelves at Walmart this morning - all securely locked.
I feel sorry for new mothers who have to deal with that.

I find it hard to understand the hit-or-miss experience of food shopping these days. Or shopping for everyday articles.

Example: Ocean Spray makes a grapefruit juice drink called Ruby Red, which I love. It was sold on the bottled juice counter (not refrigerated). In the last few months, that drink has mysteriously disappeared, but they always have the "diet" version, in almost the same, identical bottle, so I mistakenly bought it last week, thinking, "Hooray! Ruby Red is back!" I took one sip and thought it tasted like poison. The rest of it went down the drain.

This probably varies region by region, but I bet all of us have experienced some version of these shortages. I don't get it. If it's a problem with shipping and delivery trucks, why all these abrupt shortages of specific varieties, when other varieties of the same item, same company, are there in plentiful quantity?

I notice it and find myself visiting various sections of the store every time I shop to see if some of my old favorites have returned, or at least returned at a price I'm willing to pay.

So far it hasn't been anything important.

I miss Jimmy Dean Southern Style Chicken Biscuits, Stella Doro Almond Delight Cookies, TGI Fridays Buffalo Style Chicken Wings, Ellio's Supreme Pizza Slices, etc...

I realize that it's a first-world problem and that I'm spoiled but I still miss my treats. :giggle:

I am still having groceries delivered and so far no shortages or subs. Of course its just me and I tend to eat the same stuff. I also order some of the food from QVC like the small hamburger patties and fried shrimp. It all comes vacuum packed and frozen. Never had a problem with them.

Shortages do seem to be random. For about two months we couldn’t find Zatarains creole mustard. Finally found some this week. We are fortunate to have many shopping options, including ethnic markets.

It seems that the "shortages" vary from week to week. One week, there is plenty....next week, none. It seems that when a given item IS in stock, people are buying extras....and then, that item is no longer on the shelves for an extended time. Between manufacturing issues, and delivery problems, this may become the norm.

I wonder that too, for a few weeks there is only salmon and chicken-liver flavors of my cat's favorite brand, then those disappear and there are only turkey and chicken-tuna flavors. Does it mean the company only has enough workers to run two production lines?

I sure hope some stupid girl/woman (we've discussed stupid people in other threads) doesn't misinterpret what's actually in this box and take it home thinking she has bought tampons (because she's fresh out). :ROFLMAO: I took this picture at one of the local Dollar Trees.

I have to correct a previous post. Got a Walmart order and there were 3 subs that I approved as they were upgrades but I was charged lower prices. They were out of regular strawberries and subbed organic strawberries at the lower price, they subbed Hagden Daz (sic) strawberry ice cream as they were out of their brand for 1.47. Also ordered their brand of frozen whipped topping and they subbed Cool Whip brand which I like better for 98 cents. So I came out better with the upgrades. They guarantee if they are out of something they will upgrade to a better brand at the Walmart price.

For a few weeks, Publix and walmarts were both out of saltines. They are now back in stock. A few other items have been "hit and miss" but so far nothing of note.
